TK is not wrong about the direction, but 45 points assumes USC's new quarterback situation is already clicking. Pull up the tape on Dylan Gebbia and Sam Huard, neither one has run this offense in a real game yet. I am taking USC comfortably but I am not handing them 45.

Buck is right to pump the brakes on the score, and the QB uncertainty is the real variable here. The talent gap at the skill positions still points to a double-digit USC win, but Week 1 openers for teams breaking in new signal-callers tend to be sloppier than the final score suggests.

Can we please talk about San Jose State for one second? Tama Amisone has a full backfield around him with Sir Autry and Floyd Chalk IV, and those tight ends give them real options underneath. Nobody is giving the Spartans a single point of credit and that is exactly when they show up.

Games are won up front. Always have been. USC's offensive line should push SJSU's front four around all afternoon, and that is where this game gets decided. Harry Dalton III has a big day on the ground if the Trojans get ahead early and just run it.

I would keep an eye on Jay Fair and Asante Das in the passing game. If USC's quarterback, whoever it is, can get them the ball in space early, this game could get out of hand faster than even TK's scoreline implies.

I am going USC in the winner column too, but my heart says San Jose State makes this a real game into the third quarter. Jabari Bates out of the backfield and Jackson Canaan at tight end give Amisone enough weapons to move the ball. Do not sleep on these Spartans.
