Every take on this bye week has the Ole Miss defense needing a new wrinkle. That's the wrong line. Florida ran for 302 yards and Ole Miss managed one tackle for loss on 53 carries — that is not a scheme that needs more, it is one that needs less. Stephen Willis put the five-to-ten-call theory to three former Rebels and all three agreed, before Will Echoles said "paralysis by analysis" at the podium on his own. Nine days to Vanderbilt. Eight games left, and every goal still on the board. Steven Willis sits down with Tom Vanderford, the mayor of Corinth, and does three things with a bye week: diagnoses what actually beat Ole Miss in Gainesville, builds the defensive reset he would hand Pete Golding on Monday, and takes apart the reported Adidas offer that could change how this department is funded. The figure being floated is roughly triple Nike's reported counter. ⏱️ CHAPTERS 0:00 The bye week nobody gets to wash off 1:29 "The worst defense I've seen since Mr. McGriff" 2:14 Three ranked wins in September, and the one they missed 3:06 Five to ten calls, man coverage, and go 3:33 "Earn the right to be complex" 4:09 The kickoff question nobody has answered 5:00 Perspective, from a man who has had worse weeks 5:59 The backlash is a guy screaming in the first quarter 6:26 Every goal is still achievable 11:25 The Adidas report, and what Nike is said to have offered 12:22 Why a $14 million gap settles the argument 13:17 Creative control is the whole ballgame 14:34 The TV rights bubble already burst 15:49 Pride is the only thing holding this together 17:58 This is not the Vandy you remember 📌 THREE THINGS 1. The line of scrimmage is the whole story, and Vanderford got there in one sentence: "We just got our butts whooped on the line of scrimmage." Losing Kewan Lacy mattered. It does not explain 302 rushing yards. One tackle for loss on 53 carries is not a talent number — it is a hesitation number, and that is what a shorter call sheet deletes. 2. Five to ten calls, and this is not one man's hunch. Willis has run it past John Fourcade, Bill Flowers and Todd Wade — three former Rebels, three eras, three positions — and all three agreed. A lot of man coverage, send five and six every snap, live with getting beaten over the top. "Play fast, create negative plays, earn the right to be complex." 3. If the Adidas report is accurate, there is no debate. Ole Miss is reported to be near a switch that would put the Rebels in the top five of Adidas' college catalog at around $20 million a year, against a Nike counter said to be roughly a third of that. No amount of good-looking gear closes a gap that size. Creative control kills the last objection — and Tennessee just left Nike for Adidas while Miami went the other way. 🦈 EVERYDAYER CLUB — ad-free plus the members-only room, 7-day free trial: https://lockedonolemiss.supercast.com 💬 LOOM PRIVATE DISCORD — free to join: https://discord.gg/KF3dtcQJhC 🌐 EVERYTHING ELSE: https://olemisshub.com 🎧 EVERY PLATFORM: https://link.chtbl.com/LOOleMiss?sid=YouTube 🎟️ GAMETIME — Download the Gametime app, create an account, and use code LOCKEDON for $20 off your first purchase. Ole Miss lost 52-28 at No. 21 Florida, and the number that explains it is 302 — Florida's rushing yards. Not the secondary everybody spent the offseason worrying about. The run game. Steven Willis joined Reuben and the crew on The 24th Floor during the bye week to put the loss in order: what it actually cost, what it didn't, why the first four plays of the game were the wrong four plays, and what Pete Golding should do with fourteen days before Nashville. The honest version: there have been exactly three teams in the last 30 years to win three ranked games in September — Ohio State 2006, LSU 2011, Clemson 2017 — and all three were national title teams. Ole Miss had two banked and the third one in front of them. They didn't get it. So this probably isn't a title-level team. But every goal is still on the board, and there are eight games left. IN THIS EPISODE: • Why the September test matters and why losing it didn't close a door • Pass-to-run, not run-to-pass — and the four running plays that started the game • Trinidad Chambliss went 25-of-34 for 298 and ran for 64 and two scores in a 24-point loss • Why you cannot wrap him in bubble wrap, even with Kewan Lacy already hurt • The bye-week fix is subtraction: cut the call sheet to 5-10 plays • Cat-on-cat, one-gap, see ball go get ball — and go heat up a true freshman • The Vanderbilt you're walking into is not the Vanderbilt you left ON THE RECORD: Vanderbilt beat Tennessee 45-24 at Neyland on November 29 of last year. Forty-five. We have said "50" on this show before and that was wrong every time. 45-24. UP NEXT: Ole Miss at Vanderbilt, Saturday, October 10, FirstBank Stadium, Nashville. Vanderbilt is 3-1 under Clark Lea with true freshman Jared Curtis at quarterback. Thanks to The 24th Floor for having us. Tim Thomas came on to preview Ole Miss basketball and ended up making a campaign speech. Elston Turner is not in the rafters at the Pavilion, and Thomas called that a travesty. Here is the file: All-Century Team, 4th in school history in scoring at 1,805 points, 2nd in rebounding at 828, and 22 points in the 66-62 SEC Tournament title win over Georgia that sent Ole Miss to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history. He then played eight NBA seasons and is an assistant coach with the Minnesota Timberwolves right now. No banner. 8 days to Vanderbilt. Basketball opens with an exhibition against Alabama on Oct 15. Steven Willis and Ole Miss legend Tim Thomas go through Chris Beard's rebuilt roster, the Maui Invitational, and the end of the Tad Pad — plus the one correction the 1981 story has needed for forty-five years. ⏱️ CHAPTERS 0:00 [FILL FROM CASTMAGIC AFTER RECORDING] 📌 THREE THINGS 1. Elston Turner's case is stronger than the complaint. 1,805 career points is 4th all-time here; 828 rebounds is 2nd. He is on the All-Century Team. He scored 22 in the 1981 SEC championship, a 66-62 win over Georgia that produced the first NCAA Tournament bid in Ole Miss history. He is currently an NBA assistant with Minnesota. Thomas has written letters and named who he wrote to. 2. One correction to a forty-five-year-old story. Turner did NOT shut Dominique Wilkins down in that final — Wilkins scored 28 and was named tournament MVP in a losing effort. What's true is better: Bob Weltlich told Turner at halftime that when he was ready to play like he had for four years, to let him know. Turner was 4-of-11 in the first half and scored 11 after it. 3. No walk-ons. Fifteen scholarship players, every one there to play. Micah Handlogten (7-1, Florida), Santiago Trouet (6-11, Arizona State), Roman Siulepa (6-7, Pitt), Adam "Budd" Clark (Seton Hall), Ben Henshall (Perth) and Corey Stephenson (18 ppg at FIU). Thomas's read: best rebounding team Beard has had here, after a 15-win season. 🦈 EVERYDAYER CLUB — ad-free episodes plus members-only Discord, 7-day free trial: https://lockedonolemiss.supercast.com 💬 FREE LOOM PRIVATE DISCORD: https://discord.gg/KF3dtcQJhC 🌐 EVERYTHING ELSE: https://olemisshub.com 🎧 EVERY PLATFORM: https://link.chtbl.com/LOOleMiss?sid=YouTube 🎟️ GAMETIME — Last-minute college football tickets with all-in prices, panoramic seat views and Zone Deals. Everybody looked at this October and saw a death march. Here is the part nobody put on the graphic: the order. Florida — the team that just put 302 rushing yards on this defense — plays at No. 1 Texas on Oct 17, seven days before Ole Miss does. Florida plays No. 2 Georgia on Oct 31 in Atlanta, seven days before Georgia comes to Oxford. Ole Miss gets to watch its own blueprint get attacked by a top-five offense, with a full week to answer it, in both of the games that decide the season. 8 days to Vanderbilt in Nashville. Vandy plays at No. 2 Georgia first, on Oct 3. Steven Willis works the bye week from the schedule out — why the calendar is friendlier than the opponent list looks, why a passive front against a five-star freshman is the one thing that loses the Vanderbilt game, and the provision in the Senate's college sports bill that would be felt before this season ends. ⏱️ CHAPTERS 0:00 Key games and road challenges 4:52 Intense football season schedule 8:08 Examining Ole Miss' tough schedule 14:03 Discussing a controversial football win 18:43 Discussing Vanderbilt's performance 22:53 College sports conference realignment 27:40 Big week for basketball politics 📌 THREE THINGS 1. The schedule order is the good news. Florida at Texas on Oct 17; Ole Miss at Texas on Oct 24. Florida vs Georgia on Oct 31 in Atlanta — the first time that game has been in Atlanta since 1995; Georgia in Oxford on Nov 7. Seven days, twice. It cuts both ways, but a staff watching its own problem attacked in real time with a week to answer beats an opponent reading a blueprint. 2. "They are not good enough to not play aggressive defense." Against Florida, Ole Miss got six total pressures and ZERO sacks on ~112 pass-rush snaps, with only two of the six coming from the front. A passive four-man rush doesn't make a true freshman uncomfortable — it hands him a clean pocket. Flowers and Wade said the same thing independently: send five, send six, put a clock on him. 3. The coaching provision, not the 20-team cap, is what you'd feel first. Head coaches couldn't leave or take another FBS job mid-season — no more hires in week ten. And it slows the portal by the same mechanism, since players follow coaches. Paired with one penalty-free transfer, it changes November. The House doesn't reconvene until Nov 9. 🦈 EVERYDAYER CLUB — ad-free episodes plus members-only Discord, 7-day free trial: https://lockedonolemiss.supercast.com 💬 FREE LOOM PRIVATE DISCORD: https://discord.gg/KF3dtcQJhC 🌐 EVERYTHING ELSE: https://olemisshub.com 🎧 EVERY PLATFORM: https://link.chtbl.com/LOOleMiss?sid=YouTube 🎟️ GAMETIME — Last-minute college football tickets with all-in prices, panoramic seat views and Zone Deals. Everyone spent the bye week arguing about Pete Golding's scheme. That's the wrong line. Will Echoles rushed the passer 17 times against Florida and produced ZERO pressures, seven days after posting 7 pressures and a sack on the exact same 54 snaps — and the unit around him managed six total pressures and no sacks on roughly 112 pass-rush snaps. You cannot scheme your way to one tackle for loss on 53 carries. Somebody has to beat a block, and for one Saturday in Gainesville nobody did. 9 days to Vanderbilt in Nashville. Two players went to a podium Tuesday and said more useful things about this defense than anybody analyzing it all week. Steven Willis takes the two Tuesday pressers apart and puts the charting next to them — Echoles calling his own room's tape "a lack of violence," the 14 missed tackles that are now three straight weeks at exactly 14, and the one number from the bye week that says the offensive line was never the problem. ⏱️ CHAPTERS 0:00 Bye week player insights 5:24 Energy and momentum in football 8:25 Challenges with new defense starters 15:34 Importance of scout team effort 19:48 Locker room vibe after the loss 21:21 Team optimism during the bye week 📌 THREE THINGS 1. Echoles indicted his own unit and the charting is harsher than he was. He said Ole Miss put "a whole lot of lack of violence on film," then put the missed tackles at "10-plus." The charted number is 14. He low-balled his own room. And 14 is no Florida anomaly: it was 14 against LSU and 14 against Charlotte. Three straight weeks at 14, noticed only in the week they lost by 24. 2. Paralysis by analysis started on this show. Steven Willis put the phrase to Bill Flowers on Wednesday and described the mechanism — read your key, and if he does this you do this, until nobody is playing and everybody is processing. Flowers agreed and wanted a 4-3 and five calls. Fourcade agreed too. Then Echoles, with no idea any of it had been said: "we try to play too perfect, trying to do all the right things right instead of being instinctual." 3. The offensive line was never the problem, and Kutas isn't guessing. Every Ole Miss lineman improved his pass blocking from LSU — Terez Davis to 89.4, a season best, Townsend from 29.3, the worst by any Rebel all year, to 75.9. Ole Miss lost by 24 on its best protection day of the season. 🦈 EVERYDAYER CLUB — ad-free episodes plus members-only Discord, 7-day free trial: https://lockedonolemiss.supercast.com 💬 FREE LOOM PRIVATE DISCORD: https://discord.gg/KF3dtcQJhC 🌐 EVERYTHING ELSE: https://olemisshub.com 🎧 EVERY PLATFORM: https://link.chtbl.com/LOOleMiss?sid=YouTube 🎰 FANDUEL — Make this your most rewarding season ever with FanDuel Rewards Club. Everybody spent the bye week arguing about whether Ole Miss quit or whether the scheme is too complicated. Todd Wade gave a third answer in three letters: C-gap. Ole Miss plays a 4-2-5 built for spread offenses. Florida played 12 and 13 personnel, made extra gaps outside and attacked Blake Purchase and Suntarine Perkins — a linebacker essentially playing the other end. Wade: "If I was the Florida offensive coordinator, I would have done exactly the same thing." He called it indefendable. 9 days to Vanderbilt in Nashville. The last of four legends on the Florida autopsy, and the only one who put a formation on it. Steven Willis and Todd Wade take the Florida film apart at the point of attack — why the edge was outnumbered by design, why a former left tackle is asking for FEWER runs, and the personnel question nobody else has said out loud. ⏱️ CHAPTERS 0:00 Balancing play precision and instinct 6:03 Analyzing game strategy and performance 7:03 Ole Miss football strategy discussion 13:33 Team improvements and practice focus 18:30 First touchdown and quick response 26:14 Analyzing first quarter defense 28:25 Preparing for Nashville trip 📌 THREE THINGS 1. Wade raised the personnel question everybody else is avoiding. "It might be a personnel issue… maybe Purchase isn't the answer." He pointed to a first-quarter snap where Purchase jumped back to brace himself, and said far too much pressure was aimed at one player on both sides of the line. He also noted Golding's familiarity with the 3-4. 2. A former left tackle asked for fewer runs. The early drives stalled because Ole Miss forced the run against a front it could not move: "We abandoned what we're really great at." Florida held the ball 36:59 to 23:01. When the Rebels finally threw, Deuce Alexander went for 7 catches and 134 yards, his second 100-yard game — too late. 3. Vanderbilt is the same problem arriving again. Buster Faulkner, who just put 302 rushing yards on Ole Miss, is Florida's OC — and Vandy runs a lot of the same misdirection, with Jerry Kill as chief consultant. Wade: "If I'm Clark Lea, that's the first thing I see." The flip side: Vandy blitzes rather than rushing four, and starts a true freshman QB. 🦈 EVERYDAYER CLUB — ad-free episodes plus members-only Discord, 7-day free trial: https://lockedonolemiss.supercast.com 💬 FREE LOOM PRIVATE DISCORD: https://discord.gg/KF3dtcQJhC 🌐 EVERYTHING ELSE: https://olemisshub.com 🎧 EVERY PLATFORM: https://link.chtbl.com/LOOleMiss?sid=YouTube ⚡ 5-HOUR ENERGY — Bring the sweetness with Cotton Candy 5-hour ENERGY shots. A Finebaum caller named this show, named the host, called Pete Golding a clown, and made exactly one checkable claim: that Golding couldn't get a pass rush with Will Anderson and Dallas Turner. That's the wrong hill. Will Anderson played three seasons in Golding's defense — 7.0 sacks in 2020, then 17.5 sacks and 34.5 tackles for loss in 2021, then 10.0 more in 2022 — and won back-to-back Nagurski Trophies, back-to-back SEC Defensive Player of the Year awards and two unanimous All-American selections doing it. Dallas Turner's breakout was 2023, after Golding had already left for Oxford. 10 days to Vanderbilt. Bye week two of two, and the temperature outside this fanbase has gotten a long way ahead of the record. Steven Willis plays the call in full, walks the Will Anderson years one season at a time, counts what seven career games actually look like, and then gets to a linebacker about to play a lot more and a Vanderbilt team nobody has updated their file on. ⏱️ CHAPTERS 0:00 A caller takes a victory lap in the first quarter 6:03 Will Anderson, Dallas Turner, and which years they played 7:16 Answering the argument and leaving the man alone 12:21 Seven career games. Six against ranked teams. 15:52 Tah'j Butler and what a transfer has to unlearn 21:45 Vanderbilt is 3-1 with a five-star freshman 24:49 Bring back the red numbers 27:24 Ten days to Nashville 📌 THREE THINGS 1. Six of Pete Golding's seven career games as a head coach have come against ranked teams, and he is 4-2 in them. He beat No. 3 Georgia 39-34 in the Sugar Bowl and No. 7 LSU 32-24 in September. Both losses — Miami and Florida — are to teams sitting in the top ten this morning. And Saturday in Gainesville was the first true road game he has ever coached. 2. Tah'j Butler arrived from Georgia Tech in January, and spring was his first work in this system. He is not a project: 26 games over two seasons in Atlanta, 34 tackles and an interception last year. On3's Zach Berry graded Saturday and headlined that Butler had his best game yet — on the day the rest of that defense had its worst. A transfer doesn't arrive empty. He arrives with something to erase first. 3. Vanderbilt is starting a five-star true freshman at quarterback. Jared Curtis made his first career start against NC State, trailed 24-7 in the third quarter, and won it 35-31. The Commodores are 3-1, the lone loss at Auburn, and Clark Lea is in year six. Ole Miss should still be favored in Nashville. Everybody watching the Florida tape decided Ole Miss has a talent problem on defense. Bill Flowers says that's the wrong read. His argument is structural and it is specific: you cannot fit an SEC power running game with two linebackers on the field. Go to a 4-3, put a third body in the box, simplify the calls, and let athletes who are currently thinking instead go play. He kept calling himself an armchair quarterback while making the most concrete defensive argument anyone has made on this show all season. 10 days to Vanderbilt. Bye week two of two, and the fix on the table is not more scheme — it is less of it, plus one more linebacker. Steven Willis and Ole Miss legend Bill Flowers go through the Florida film, land on a 4-3 and extreme simplification, and then build the plan for a true freshman quarterback in Nashville — which turns out to be the same plan, only louder. ⏱️ CHAPTERS 0:00 What the offense loses without Kewan Lacy 4:07 Two linebackers cannot fit an SEC running game 8:27 The case for going back to a 4-3 14:09 What this bye week actually has to fix 19:04 Time of possession and the identity question 20:42 What happens if Ole Miss misses the playoff 26:40 How you attack a true freshman quarterback 28:12 Ten days to Nashville 📌 THREE THINGS 1. Flowers watched Florida run at a two-linebacker front and called it hat on hat — perfect calls, every time, with gaping holes where a third linebacker would have been standing. His fix is a 4-3 and a stated identity: stop the run first. His warning is blunter. No team wins a national title without a power running game, and if you cannot stop one, the rest of this schedule does not care how much talent you have. 2. The simplification argument now has two former players behind it. Fourcade said a transfer has to unlearn a scheme before he can learn yours. Flowers says the calls themselves are the problem — read your key, and if he does this do that, and if he does that do this, until nobody plays fast. Line up in man, run about five calls, and find out what these athletes actually are before Austin. 3. The plan for Jared Curtis is pressure and nothing else. Flowers would blitz five or six every snap and refuse to get clever: do not try to confuse a true freshman, just put a clock on him. And the reason is the part people miss — the more snaps a five-star freshman gets, the better he gets. Do not let him get comfortable. 🦈 EVERYDAYER CLUB — ad-free episodes plus members-only Discord, 7-day free trial: https://lockedonolemiss.supercast.com 💬 FREE LOOM PRIVATE DISCORD: https://discord.gg/KF3dtcQJhC 🌐 EVERYTHING ELSE: https://olemisshub.com 🎧 EVERY PLATFORM: https://link.chtbl.com/LOOleMiss?sid=YouTube 📈 KALSHI — America's #1 prediction market platform. Every story about Keegan Croucher this week leads with the stat line. That's the wrong line. He committed to Ole Miss on October 5 — he committed to Lane Kiffin — and when Kiffin left for LSU, Georgia came, Kentucky came, Indiana came, and a 17-year-old with offers from Penn State, Michigan, Miami and Oregon never reopened it. The 27-of-35 for 531 yards and seven touchdowns is real. The part that tells you something about this program is that he stayed. 11 days to Vanderbilt. Bye week two of two, and the recruiting board moved four separate times in eight days while everybody was busy being mad about 52-28. Steven Willis takes apart the comparison everybody is making, runs the playoff seed math nobody wants to hear, and then finds three Ole Miss names on one high school campus 400 miles from Oxford — two of whom transferred in. ⏱️ CHAPTERS 0:00 The bye week and a board that moved four times 3:50 He committed to Kiffin. Kiffin left. He stayed. 7:06 What ninth in the country actually costs you 13:40 Tae Walden was in the building for the LSU win 17:48 Oregon is bankrolled — and Ole Miss has momentum 22:02 The 2028 board and five expert predictions 24:46 Kiffin took four coaches. Seven of ten stayed. 26:50 What to watch during the bye 📌 THREE THINGS 1. The loyalty is the story, not the arm. Croucher committed October 5, 2025 to a coach who was gone months later, and Kirby Smart personally came after him. He is 6-4.5 and 200 now, up an inch and a half and fifteen pounds since March. You will see him called the No. 4 quarterback in the country — that is a spring number. On3 has him 10th, and 122nd overall. 2. Ninth place does not host anything. Twelve teams make the playoff, the top four seeds get a bye, and seeds five through twelve play the first round on the higher seed's home field. Ole Miss is ninth. Florida is eighth. Last December this program was the No. 6 seed and hosted Tulane in Oxford, winning 41-10 — same building, one seed line, a completely different December. 3. Three Rebel targets go to the same high school and it is in Chattanooga. Antwaun Adams (No. 102 nationally) and Braxton Rein (No. 172) both attend the Baylor School, and so does Keegan Croucher. Two of the three transferred in. Baylor is 6-0, averaging 40.6 points a game, and 12th in the national composite. The 2028 class looks like Mississippi plus one school in Tennessee. 🦈 EVERYDAYER CLUB — ad-free episodes plus members-only Discord, 7-day free trial: https://lockedonolemiss.supercast.com 💬 FREE LOOM PRIVATE DISCORD: https://discord.gg/KF3dtcQJhC 🌐 EVERYTHING ELSE: https://olemisshub.com 🎧 EVERY PLATFORM: https://link.chtbl.com/LOOleMiss?sid=YouTube 📈 KALSHI — America's #1 prediction market platform. Everybody watching Saturday decided the Ole Miss defense got exposed. That's the wrong read. Ole Miss has an All-Big 12 linebacker who is more athletic than anything on last year's roster and he was late getting sideline to sideline all afternoon — and the theory on this show is that the problem is not talent or effort, it is that Pete Golding is running a Nick Saban match-coverage system that takes three years to learn, in an era where eight of your eleven starters arrived in January. John Fourcade agreed, and then told us exactly what he would do with the two weeks. 11 days to Vanderbilt. Bye week two of two, and the fix Fourcade wants is not a scheme — it is a threat. Steven Willis and John Fourcade take apart the Florida defensive performance, land on simplification as the answer, and then Fourcade lays out a bye-week plan that ends with benching whoever will not tackle — and explains why NIL is the reason nobody does it. ⏱️ CHAPTERS 0:00 Out of gas, or something else? Fourcade on Florida 5:10 Florida caught on to the short passing game 7:51 The case for base man-to-man against Vanderbilt 14:50 Eight new starters cannot learn a three-year defense 17:05 Why NIL money is why nobody gets benched 27:36 Play the backups. Then tell the starters why. 📌 THREE THINGS 1. The theory: Golding's defense is a Saban inheritance, and Saban's version needed a redshirt year, a learning year and a playing year. The portal does not give you three years. It gives you one, and this defense turned over most of a starting eleven. Fourcade's answer was immediate — every arrival has to unlearn a scheme first, and what hits them in the SEC is not receiver speed but how fast the linemen play. 2. The proposal is extreme simplification. Base man-to-man against Vanderbilt, roughly five calls, no if-this-then-that. Fourcade pushed back honestly: man is the hardest thing to play, a scramble breaks every route you studied, and it only works if the front and the linebackers help. But he agreed on the principle — you find out what these athletes are before Texas, not after. 3. Fourcade's bye-week list, in order: confirm who is healthy, then tackling, then reps for the backups. He was blunt about the diving at feet — "that's just laziness" — blunter about the mechanism nobody says aloud: starters don't get benched because a booster is paying them, so the only lever left is showing a starter his backup taking his reps. 🦈 EVERYDAYER CLUB — ad-free episodes plus members-only Discord, 7-day free trial: https://lockedonolemiss.supercast.com 💬 FREE LOOM PRIVATE DISCORD: https://discord.gg/KF3dtcQJhC 🌐 EVERYTHING ELSE: https://olemisshub.com 🎧 EVERY PLATFORM: https://link.chtbl.com/LOOleMiss?sid=YouTube 🛡️ AURA — protect your personal information and keep it off data broker sites. Florida averaged 37.8 yards per kickoff return on Saturday. Ole Miss averaged 17.0. Four returns for 151 against five for 85 — the Gators gained 66 more yards of field position on one fewer attempt, and nobody in the country has reported it. Here is what that actually looked like. Third quarter, 5:21 left, Trinidad Chambliss runs in his second rushing touchdown and it is 24-21. The game is genuinely in the balance. Ninety-six seconds later Florida is back in the end zone, and that scoring drive was three plays and 26 yards. They did not drive down the field. They started on our side of it. Three things from the Swamp, what this bye week is actually for, and the SEC Week 5 board with five Ole Miss opponents on it. 📌 THREE THINGS 1. This team was running on empty and the calendar did it. September 6, No. 24 Louisville on a neutral field, won 41-38. September 12, Charlotte — the only breather all month. September 19, No. 7 LSU, 32-24. September 26, No. 21 Florida on the road in the first true road environment of the year. Three ranked opponents in 21 days, two decided by one score. Florida held the ball for nearly 37 minutes and ran it 53 times for 302 yards. The tell: Jadan Baugh, their starter, went 29 carries for 138 — 4.8 a clip. Duke Clark, the backup, went 12 for 126. That is 10.5. The second back doubled the starter on less than half the work, and Florida scored 21 in the fourth quarter alone. 2. Special teams had a terrible day, and that is a weird sentence about this program. The specialists were fine — Lucas Carneiro went 2-for-2 including a 46-yarder, and the punt team averaged 53.7 with one inside the 20. The units were not. Special teams is the one phase where effort and organization matter more than raw talent, which is exactly why it stings and exactly why two weeks should fix it. 3. Ole Miss is a pass-to-run offense. Accept it. Through four games: 117 rushing attempts, 153 pass attempts, 270 plays, 57% of them throws. 322.5 passing yards a game against 117.5 rushing — 2.7 times more production through the air. That is not a criticism, it is working, and this team leads the SEC in passing at 3-1. But it explains Saturday. A pass-to-run offense still needs the run credible enough to hold up its end, and without Kewan Lacy it was not. Plus: the two four-star freshmen this bye week belongs to, why you cannot play the transitive property in college football, and the path that still runs through Austin on October 24. 🦈 EVERYDAYER CLUB — ad-free episodes plus members-only Discord, 7-day free trial: https://lockedonolemiss.supercast.com 💬 FREE LOOM PRIVATE DISCORD: https://discord.gg/KF3dtcQJhC 🌐 EVERYTHING ELSE: https://olemisshub.com 🎧 EVERY PLATFORM: https://link.chtbl.com/LOOleMiss?sid=YouTube 🛡️ AURA — protect your personal information and keep it off data broker sites. It was 24-21 in the third quarter. Everybody woke up this morning with 52-28 in their head, and 52-28 is a real score — but it is not what the game was. It is what the game became in the last eighteen minutes. Ole Miss trailed 17-6 at the half, and then Trinidad Chambliss ran in two touchdowns in the third quarter to make it a three-point game on the road in the loudest building on the schedule. Then the tank hit empty. Time of possession in that game was 36:59 to 23:01 . Florida ran the football 53 times. Our defense was on the field for almost 37 minutes in the third high-intensity game of the month. September 6, No. 24 Louisville, decided by three. September 19, No. 7 LSU, 32-24. September 26, No. 21 Florida on the road. Three ranked opponents in 21 days, and the only breather was Charlotte. Steven Willis goes live Sunday morning with what the box score actually says, and then it is your show — two full segments of your comments and questions. 📌 THREE THINGS It was a one-score game in the third quarter. Total yards were 498-426. First downs 27-25. Ole Miss threw for 298 to Florida's 196. Chambliss went 25 of 34 for 298 with two rushing touchdowns, and Deuce Alexander caught seven for 134 and a score. That is not an offense that got shut down. The 24-point margin came from two places: turnovers 2-0, and 14 extra minutes of football. The fatigue tell is Duke Clark. Jadan Baugh — the back everybody spent the week worried about — went 29 carries for 138 yards, 4.8 a pop. Florida's backup, Duke Clark, went 12 carries for 126. That is 10.5 a carry. The second back averaged more than double the starter on less than half the carries, and Florida scored 21 in the fourth quarter. You do not forget how to tackle because a different number comes in. That is legs. Eight ranked teams lost Saturday. No. 12 USC, No. 13 Penn State at home to unranked Wisconsin, No. 14 Tennessee, No. 16 Louisville at home to unranked Wake Forest, No. 18 Michigan, No. 19 Missouri to No. 24 Mississippi State, and No. 23 Texas A&M 35-6 to No. 10 LSU. Ole Miss lost on the road to a ranked team about to be top ten. And the team that dismantled Texas A&M yesterday is the team Ole Miss beat 32-24 seven days ago. 🔴 ON TODAY'S SHOW • It was 24-21 in the third. Florida's offense ran through the Ole Miss defense, and there is no version of tonight where that is not the first sentence. The Gators wanted to run it, they told everybody all week they were going to run it, and the Rebels never made them stop. Trinidad Chambliss was asked to carry an offense playing from behind in the loudest building on the schedule without its leading rusher, and one quarterback was never going to be enough against that. But two things are true tonight, and if you can only hold one of them October is going to be miserable. Florida is by far the best team Ole Miss has played this season. And every single team in this conference is going to take one before it is over. Steven Willis goes live from the postgame with the reaction, the argument, and what the next two weeks actually have to fix. Ole Miss is off next week. Vanderbilt in Nashville is October 10. 📌 THREE THINGS We could not get Florida off the field. This show put it on the board Friday — the Gators' back breaks more tackles than anybody in the country, and Ole Miss misses more than almost anybody in the league — and then it happened exactly that way. That is not a scheme surprise. Missed tackles are a technique problem, they do not get fixed by who dresses on Saturday, and this is a defensive head coach's side of the ball. Do not blame the injury report. Kewan Lacy was ruled out before kickoff and it cost this offense a gear it never replaced. But the players who were unavailable are not the reason Florida ran through the middle of the defense. Those are two different conversations and collapsing them into one is how a team avoids fixing the real thing. The bye is the fork in the season. An open date is the only stretch all year where a staff works on itself instead of on an opponent — live tackling, fundamentals, bodies back. Then it is Vanderbilt on the road, which in this league is not a get-right game and nobody should sell it as one. Two weeks from now we find out whether tonight was one bad afternoon against the best team on the schedule, or the start of something. 📊 A NOTE ON THE NUMBERS: we do not put a game statistic on this show until Ole Miss posts the official box score. That is a rule here and it exists because we have been burned by live feeds serving halftime snapshots as finals. Tonight's full numbers go in the Everydayer tomorrow morning, sourced and checked. 🔴 ON TONIGHT'S SHOW • Florida's offense ran through our defense • Trinidad Chambliss cannot do it alone • Bye week, then Vanderbilt in Nashville 🦈 EVERYDAYER CLUB — ad-free episodes plus members-only Discord, 7-day free trial: https://lockedonolemiss.supercast.com 💬 FREE LOOM PRIVATE DISCORD: / discord 🌐 EVERYTHING ELSE: https://olemisshub.com 🎧 EVERY PLATFORM: https://link.chtbl.com/LOOleMiss?sid=... 📈 KALSHI — download Kalshi and use code LOCKEDON, two words, to get $25 when you trade $25. Kewan Lacy was downgraded to doubtful Friday night, and he is the absence that actually matters. Ole Miss is likely walking into The Swamp without the back who has carried it 39 times for 191 yards this season. The availability report around him is long, but it is depth — not the starting lineup — and that distinction is the whole story going into Gainesville. Steven Willis and Mike Huesmann go live at kickoff minus two hours to sort out who actually carries the football. Kickoff is today, Saturday, September 26, at 3:30 PM ET from Ben Hill Griffin Stadium on ABC. Sean McDonough, Greg McElroy and Katie George have the call. It is the 28th meeting between two programs whose all-time series is dead even at 13-13-1, and Ole Miss has not won in The Swamp since 2008. This is a live show and the final availability report drops while we are on the air. Bring your questions, your arguments, and your final score. 📌 THREE THINGS Kewan Lacy is doubtful. He hurt the shoulder against LSU, the MRI came back better than feared and no surgery is needed, but he was held out of contact all week and got downgraded Friday night. If he cannot go it is Makhi Frazier, upgraded Thursday after a practice injury, and JT Lindsey, who had five touches and a two-point conversion against LSU. Together they have 86 rushing yards on 21 carries. Golding on the rotation: "He had minimized reps throughout the week, so JT got a lot of those banged reps. He was the most ready to play." The secondary is intact where it counts. Sharif Denson and Antonio Kite were back against LSU and the difference was immediate — Denson put up eight tackles, seven solo, with a tackle for loss, and Jaylon Braxton ended that game with a red-zone interception. Jalyn Crawford is playing through turf toe, and Pete Golding was blunt about what that means: "If you can't run and you play corner, you're kind of a liability." The front line is available. The margin behind it is not, and one in-game injury changes that math fast. This is an offensive line game. Florida sacked Auburn's quarterback seven times three weeks ago — Emmanuel Oyebadejo two and a half, Jayden Woods two and a half — and Jon Sumrall called his pass rush the bright spot of that defense, not the secondary everybody has spent the week talking about. Ole Miss leads the SEC at 330.7 passing yards a game and runs the conference's second-fastest offense at 23.1 seconds per play, but tempo only works when the quarterback is upright. Pete Golding is the first FBS head coach to beat four AP-ranked opponents in his first six career games and sits 4-1 against ranked teams. FanDuel has Florida -3.5 with a total of 58.5. 🔴 ON TODAY'S SHOW • Kewan Lacy is doubtful. Who carries it? • Mike Huesmann joins for the full half hour • Sharif Denson goes home. Everyone spent this week on Florida's 98th-ranked pass defense. Here is the number nobody put next to it: the Gators sacked Auburn's quarterback seven times three weeks ago. Emmanuel Oyebadejo two and a half, Jayden Woods two and a half, plus two takeaways. Same defense. A front that wrecks pockets, in front of a back end that gives up chunks. That is a very different Saturday to prepare for than "they cannot cover anybody." One day to Florida. Tom Vanderford joins to relive the loudest night Vaught-Hemingway has ever had — and then tells Steven Willis that Florida is a better football team than the LSU squad Ole Miss just beat. ⏱️ CHAPTERS 0:00 The mayor of Corinth is back 1:23 "It came through the TV unlike any game ever played in Oxford" 2:04 Tom Vanderford was in the building: "there's no comparison" 3:55 On being a 60-year-old Ole Miss fan in the second half 6:46 The third-string back from LSU is pretty darn good 7:09 Every time Ole Miss needed one yard, they got it 8:04 "Trinidad's cooking and you just got to play heater" 11:17 The Kentucky four-minute offense, and when Steven knew 15:32 The Swamp, the crowd noise, and Florida's seven sacks 16:14 The Baugh number: 27 carries, 125 yards, Ole Miss wins 16:44 Vanderford doesn't see Jadan Baugh getting over 100 17:29 The Ole Miss defensive front, and the joy of not knowing 19:40 Pete Golding's temperament, and the shark emoji 23:16 "There is no harder place to play football than the Swamp" 23:50 The best defense and the co-best offense Ole Miss will face 24:15 The prediction: Ole Miss in the 30s, Florida under 30 24:45 "Trinidad's the best player in college football" 26:56 Tom Vanderford: "Florida's better than LSU" 28:18 Give to the Grove Collective 📌 THREE THINGS 1. SEVEN SACKS, AND 98TH AGAINST THE PASS. Both are true about the same Florida defense. Emmanuel Oyebadejo and Jayden Woods had two and a half each against Auburn, and the Gators forced two interceptions in that first half. Jon Sumrall called the pass rush a bright spot and said the issue is explosive plays. That means protection matters more on Saturday, not less — the big plays are there, but only if they have time to develop. 2. A REAL NUMBER ON JADAN BAUGH. Steven finally answers the question he put in Friday's comments: hold Baugh to 27 carries for 125 yards and Ole Miss wins. That is 4.5 a carry against a back averaging 8.5 — Florida gets the clock-control game it wants and still has to grind. Vanderford goes further and doesn't see Baugh clearing 100. 3. THE GUEST THINKS FLORIDA IS THE BETTER TEAM. Six days after Ole Miss handled No. 7 LSU, Vanderford calls Florida probably the best defense the Rebels will face this year and ties them with Louisville for the best offense. He is a 60-year-old fan who has watched this program be bad. He is not talking himself into anything. 🎙️ GUEST: Tom Vanderford — mayor of Corinth, Mississippi, and a weekly voice on the show 🦈 EVERYDAYER CLUB — ad-free episodes plus members-only Discord, 7-day free trial: https://lockedonolemiss.supercast.com 💬 FREE LOOM PRIVATE DISCORD: https://discord.gg/KF3dtcQJhC 🌐 EVERYTHING ELSE: https://olemisshub.com 🎧 EVERY PLATFORM: https://link.chtbl.com/LOOleMiss?sid=YouTube 🎯 FANDUEL — play College Football Pick 'Em free on FanDuel: fanduel.com 📊 ODOO — all your business software in one place: odoo.com Locked On Ole Miss is part of the Locked On Podcast Network — your team, every day. #OleMiss #HottyToddy #OleMissFootball #Gators #SwampWeek #SEC #CollegeFootball FANDUEL DISCLAIMER: 21+ in select states. Every preview of this game has started with fifty-four points a game and Jadan Baugh. Start somewhere else. Start with what Florida said about Florida. Defensive coordinator Brad White, after a win: "we need to get better back there." Head coach Jon Sumrall, on the last touchdown Auburn scored: "makes me want to puke watching it." Auburn threw it thirty-five times in that game and the Gators broke up two. One day to Florida. Steven Willis puts three reasons Ole Miss beats Florida on the board and defends all three out loud, then hands you the keys, the names and a number — and corrects two of his own figures along the way. ⏱️ CHAPTERS 0:00 Why Ole Miss beats Florida — the promise 1:10 Reason one: Ole Miss has the better quarterback 3:03 He refused to let the mistake be the story 4:10 Reason two: Florida's own coaches on their secondary 6:01 Reason three: the phase nobody ever previews 7:24 Which of the three reasons would you throw out? 10:08 How Ole Miss wins: the three keys 10:55 You are not stopping Baugh — it is what the yards cost 12:03 Florida's 16 penalties at Auburn, read two ways 12:32 Score early and quiet ninety thousand people 13:45 Three names to watch on Saturday 14:06 The Ole Miss backfield may not look the same 17:07 The line, the money and a dead-even series 17:43 The No. 4 team is getting points at the No. 21 team 20:51 Thirty broken tackles against forty-six missed ones 23:42 Aaron Philo and the screen game 25:39 The prediction: Ole Miss 34, Florida 28 26:46 What a win in The Swamp does to the narrative 📌 THREE THINGS 1. THIRTY AGAINST FORTY-SIX. Jadan Baugh has 30 broken tackles, the most in the FBS. Ole Miss has 46 missed tackles, second-most in the Power Four. Both figures are PFF's, via analyst Max Chadwick. Put them in one sentence and you have Saturday. Sharif Denson, who came from Florida, and Blake Purchase, who has never faced Baugh, gave the same answer in separate rooms: wrap up and gang tackle. 2. FLORIDA HANDED US THE WEAKNESS. Brad White and Jon Sumrall both named the secondary in the same week, and Auburn threw 35 times against two breakups. The caveats are real — Auburn was chasing, plenty of those throws were uncontested, Florida won 44-39, and Cormani McClain took the ball away. But the SEC's leading passer is the next man they see. 3. THE QUARTERBACK BREAKS THE TIE. Chambliss leads the SEC with 924 passing yards, and the argument is not the stat. Against LSU he gave a 17-point lead back, threw the pick that started it, then ran it in from 14 to take the game back. Aaron Philo has been good and has not yet had to win a one-score fourth quarter on this stage. 🦈 EVERYDAYER CLUB — ad-free episodes plus members-only Discord, 7-day free trial: https://lockedonolemiss.supercast.com 💬 FREE LOOM PRIVATE DISCORD: https://discord.gg/KF3dtcQJhC 🌐 EVERYTHING ELSE: https://olemisshub.com 🎧 EVERY PLATFORM: https://link.chtbl.com/LOOleMiss?sid=YouTube 🎯 FANDUEL — play College Football Pick 'Em free on FanDuel: fanduel.com 📊 ODOO — all your business software in one place: odoo.com Locked On Ole Miss is part of the Locked On Podcast Network — your team, every day. #OleMiss #HottyToddy #OleMissFootball #Gators #SwampWeek #SEC #CollegeFootball FANDUEL DISCLAIMER: 21+ in select states. Pete Golding has beaten four ranked teams in his first six games as a head coach. No coach in the history of college football has done that. No. 17 Tulane, No. 2 Georgia, No. 24 Louisville, No. 7 LSU. He has never lost to a ranked opponent. And Ole Miss is still getting points on the road Saturday from a team whose best win is Auburn. Spencer McLaughlin could not explain it on his own show, and neither could I. One day to Florida. Steven Willis joined Spencer McLaughlin on Locked On College Football to work through why the fourth-ranked team in America is an underdog, the one box-score line that tells you who won, and what happens to every old narrative about this program if Ole Miss walks out of The Swamp with it. ⏱️ CHAPTERS 0:00 "I'm scared. I am terrified. Down to my core." 1:46 Why is Florida favored? The emotional-letdown theory 3:00 Florida's 98th-ranked pass defense against Chambliss 3:50 The one box-score line that tells you who won 4:24 Spencer's 2023 Washington comparison, and why it breaks 5:00 Pete Golding's record against ranked teams 5:28 "I would feel like a complete and utter fool" 5:50 Ole Miss has the better team and the better quarterback 6:15 Why a 3:30 kickoff is the best thing that happened all week 6:40 Kewan Lacy, and real doubt about Saturday 7:03 The Deuce Alexander throw into a six-foot window 7:32 The last chance saloon for the old Ole Miss narratives 8:18 Ole Miss can run for 250 or throw for 450 8:40 Two predictions, one point apart 8:57 The secret is keeping Florida under 30 9:20 The front seven when it isn't being nerfed 📌 THREE THINGS 1. FOUR RANKED WINS IN SIX GAMES, AND NOBODY HAS UPDATED THE FILE. Per Sports Illustrated, Pete Golding is the first coach in college football history to beat four ranked teams in his first six games. Tulane, Georgia, Louisville, LSU. He is 5-1 overall and has never lost to a ranked opponent. Spencer McLaughlin had it as 5-1 against ranked teams — close, and low. 2. THE ONE LINE TO WATCH. Jadan Baugh at 27 carries for 125 yards means Ole Miss won. At 25 carries for 190, Florida won. Two carries and 65 yards apart. The first is 4.5 a carry from a back averaging 8.5 — Florida gets the clock game it wants and still has to grind. The second is a track meet in one direction. 3. THE LAST CHANCE SALOON. Steven's line on the show: this feels like the last chance for the old narratives about Ole Miss to exist, because they have to change if Ole Miss wins. A program that beat Georgia in a playoff quarterfinal nine months ago is still being priced like the old version of itself. 🎙️ Originally aired on LOCKED ON COLLEGE FOOTBALL with Spencer McLaughlin Subscribe to Locked On College Football: https://www.youtube.com/@LockedOnCollegeFootball 🦈 EVERYDAYER CLUB — ad-free episodes plus members-only Discord, 7-day free trial: https://lockedonolemiss.supercast.com 💬 FREE LOOM PRIVATE DISCORD: https://discord.gg/KF3dtcQJhC 🌐 EVERYTHING ELSE: https://olemisshub.com 🎧 EVERY PLATFORM: https://link.chtbl.com/LOOleMiss?sid=YouTube Locked On Ole Miss is part of the Locked On Podcast Network — your team, every day. #OleMiss #HottyToddy #OleMissFootball #PeteGolding #Gators #SwampWeek #SEC #CollegeFootball FANDUEL DISCLAIMER: 21+ in select states. Steven Willis joined Richard Denson and Reuben on The 24th Floor to break down Ole Miss 32, LSU 24 — and made a claim the hosts immediately pushed back on. "I went into that game thinking that Trinidad was the best quarterback in the SEC. I walked out of that game thinking about how Trinidad might be the best quarterback in the country, and might be the best quarterback in the country since 2019." Since 2019 means past Caleb Williams, Bryce Young and CJ Stroud. Richard said the list out loud and did not buy it. That argument is the first five minutes. The rest is less comfortable: a third-quarter problem that is now three weeks old, a running back room holding its breath, and a front seven that has not been let off the leash yet. Three days. Saturday, September 26, 3:30 PM ET on ABC. ⏱️ CHAPTERS 0:00 Ole Miss 32, LSU 24 — and Golding's "it wasn't the Super Bowl" 1:41 "Best quarterback in the country since 2019" 2:56 "I honestly think we're witnessing greatness" 3:14 The pushback: Caleb Williams, Bryce Young, CJ Stroud 4:34 Is Ole Miss asking Chambliss to bail them out? 5:17 Up 24-7 at half, and the one throw that changed it 5:31 "A different dude stood up" 5:58 Kewan Lacy, and whether there's still a 1-2 punch 6:20 Why Ole Miss fans have PTSD about backs in Gainesville 7:06 Run it so they respect it. Then let Trinidad be Trinidad. 7:35 Traylon Ray asked to go back to offense 8:18 "You can't cover everybody" 10:27 "Golding's got to figure out why" — three weeks running 11:19 Best front seven in the SEC, and what keeps nerfing it 11:47 Will Echoles: 7 hurries, and a 12 grade across from him 12:51 LSU's road ahead 13:12 Lane Kiffin's invoice came due 📌 THREE THINGS 1. The third quarter is now a pattern, not an incident. Louisville, Charlotte, LSU — three different opponents, same window. Fair caveat on the LSU version: the quarter opened with an LSU three-and-out and a sack, then an interception handed them a short field. It was a team lull, not purely a defensive one. It still has to get fixed before Gainesville. 2. Will Echoles had seven quarterback hurries and three tackles for loss, and per the PFF report the guard across from him graded a 12 in pass protection. The larger point: Ole Miss has one of the best front sevens in the SEC and has been keeping it on a leash to protect the secondary. Against LSU it came off. 3. Traylon Ray is the third weapon, and the math is what matters. This offense was down to Deuce Alexander and Caleb Odom — two names a coordinator can bracket. Ray makes three. If Johntay Cook II becomes four, there are not enough defensive backs to go around. Kewan Lacy remains a game-time decision; Makhi Frazier is expected back. 🎙️ FULL EPISODE: The 24th Floor with Richard Denson and Reuben — on 24+ YouTube and wherever you get podcasts. I asked a Florida writer to name her own team's soft spot four days before we play them, and she did not dodge it: "If I had to pick one, I would say their secondary." Ali Peek hosts A Peek Inside Gators Football. She covers Florida every day, picked the Gators back in the summer, and came on to explain exactly how they do it — starting with a number that reframes the afternoon. Against Auburn, Florida held the ball for 39 minutes and 16 seconds. In her words: "I personally like the idea of the ball only being in Trinidad's hands a third of the time." Time of possession is the whole Florida plan. They held it 39:16 at Auburn, and her stated goal is Chambliss touching it a third of the time. Everything else — run Baugh, convert third downs, finish drives — serves that one idea: keep No. 6 on the sideline. 2. She named the secondary as Florida's soft spot, and Florida's own coordinator said the same thing this week. Brad White called the 271 passing yards Auburn threw for "not acceptable" and said his group needs to get better "back there." Peek's third-down numbers: Ole Miss converting over 45%, Florida's defense giving up about 41%. 3. Florida's penalties have doubled every week — 4, then 8, then 16 for 138 yards at Auburn, and the early ones were mostly reserves in garbage time. Meanwhile both offenses are perfect in the red zone: Florida 17-for-17, Ole Miss 12-for-12. Nobody is stalling inside the 20, so free yardage decides it. 🎙️ GUEST: Ali Peek — A Peek Inside Gators Football 🦈 EVERYDAYER CLUB — ad-free episodes plus members-only Discord, 7-day free trial: https://lockedonolemiss.supercast.com 💬 FREE LOOM PRIVATE DISCORD: https://discord.gg/KF3dtcQJhC 🌐 EVERYTHING ELSE: https://olemisshub.com 🎧 EVERY PLATFORM: https://link.chtbl.com/LOOleMiss?sid=YouTube 🎟️ GAMETIME — download the Gametime app, create an account and use code LOCKEDON for $20 off your first purchase. 🌿 LARINE — nicotine-free pouches with 50mg caffeine, L-theanine and alpha-GPC for clean focus, plus nano-hydroxyapatite for enamel support. Florida's defensive coordinator watched the Auburn tape this week, saw 271 passing yards allowed, and called it what it was: "not acceptable." Then Brad White described the quarterback he sees Saturday — Trinidad Chambliss — as an "elite level player" with "unbelievable arm strength" who "can escape anywhere in the pocket." Chambliss leads the SEC in passing. Florida is still the favorite. So we brought in somebody who watches that team every day. Brandon Olsen hosts Locked On Gators, and he is not here to tell Ole Miss fans what they want to hear. Two days to Gainesville. Saturday, September 26, 3:30 PM ET on ABC from Ben Hill Griffin Stadium — the 28th meeting between two programs whose all-time series is dead even at 13-13-1. 📌 THREE THINGS 1. Florida is averaging 54.0 points a game and it is not all cupcakes. The Gators put 66 on Florida Atlantic and 52 on Campbell, then went to Jordan-Hare and hung 44 on Auburn. Jadan Baugh has 458 rushing yards and 8 touchdowns at 8.5 a carry, and he is the first Florida back with four straight 100-yard games since Fred Taylor in 1997. 2. Florida's own coordinator flagged the secondary, out loud, four days early. Brad White on the 271 yards Auburn threw for: "not acceptable… we need to get better back there." He then called Chambliss elite and praised Kewan Lacy as "a game-changer" who "operates at a different speed." Lacy is a game-time decision. So is Florida receiver Eric Singleton Jr., hurt on the opening drive of the season. 3. Two Ole Miss defenders gave the same Baugh answer without conferring. Sharif Denson practiced against him at Florida for years: "bring your feet, wrap up, gang tackle him." Blake Purchase, who has never faced him: "wrapping up and getting him on the ground." A nickel and a defensive end, separate sessions, identical conclusion — there is no scheme that solves it. 🎙️ GUEST: Brandon Olsen — Locked On Gators (@WNS_Brandon) Subscribe to Locked On Gators: https://www.youtube.com/c/lockedongators 🦈 EVERYDAYER CLUB — ad-free episodes plus members-only Discord, 7-day free trial: https://lockedonolemiss.supercast.com 💬 FREE LOOM PRIVATE DISCORD: https://discord.gg/KF3dtcQJhC 🌐 EVERYTHING ELSE: https://olemisshub.com 🎧 EVERY PLATFORM: https://link.chtbl.com/LOOleMiss?sid=YouTube 📈 KALSHI — download Kalshi and use code LOCKEDON, two words, to get $25 when you trade $25. Eighty-nine percent of the money at FanDuel is on Ole Miss. Eighty-five percent of the tickets are too. And the line has not moved a tenth of a point — still Florida -3.5. When the public piles on that hard and the number refuses to budge, the people setting it are telling you something. Ole Miss legend Bill Flowers joins to call it what he thinks it is, to explain why he is not worried about a letdown, and to answer a question I have dodged for years: is Trinidad Chambliss about to pass Eli Manning as the greatest quarterback in Ole Miss history? He also watched the LSU third quarter and came away disagreeing with the head coach about what happened. Three days. Saturday, September 26, 3:30 PM ET on ABC. ⏱️ CHAPTERS 0:00 Coming off LSU, and a trip to the Swamp 2:12 "Hired assassins": why the portal changed the letdown game 4:17 Rat poison or disrespect? Bill Flowers picks one 5:07 89% of the money is on Ole Miss. The line hasn't moved. 7:29 "They're going to have to eat crow" 8:08 Three teams have done this. All three played for a title. 12:41 What the LSU tape actually showed 14:17 The throw Chambliss didn't have to make 17:33 "What's going to win the SEC is the line of scrimmage" 18:06 Is Chambliss the greatest to ever play quarterback at Ole Miss? 20:27 Baker Mayfield outside the pocket, Drew Brees inside it 21:12 Why the NFL wants this exact quarterback 24:12 Predictions: Bill Flowers goes first 25:47 "Manipulate the score" — how you win a road game 26:17 Bill Flowers: Ole Miss 27, Florida 17 📌 THREE THINGS 1. Flowers thinks the letdown game is dead, and the portal killed it. "You have guys that are hired assassins, essentially. They have one job to do, and that is to win." His argument is that a roster built from proven transfers brings its own maturity — and that being a 3.5-point underdog removes the one real danger. "If we were favored and everybody was feeding us the rat poison, that would be something else you'd have to be concerned about." 2. He disagrees with Pete Golding about the third quarter. Golding said he did not change a call. Flowers, watching the same tape: "I felt like it was much more conservative. The backers weren't up near the front of the line of scrimmage." And: "I just don't feel like Ole Miss plays well defensively in a conservative style defense." 3. On the GOAT question he did not hesitate. Asked whether Chambliss passes Eli Manning if this team makes a run, Flowers said yes — and framed it around a pendulum swinging back toward a quarterback who can dissect a defense from the pocket and still do damage outside it. The word he kept using was not athletic. It was cerebral. 🎙️ GUEST: Bill Flowers — Ole Miss letterman 🦈 EVERYDAYER CLUB — ad-free episodes plus members-only Discord, 7-day free trial: https://lockedonolemiss.supercast.com 💬 FREE LOOM PRIVATE DISCORD: https://discord.gg/KF3dtcQJhC 🌐 EVERYTHING ELSE: https://olemisshub.com 🎧 EVERY PLATFORM: https://link.chtbl.com/LOOleMiss?sid=YouTube 📈 KALSHI — download Kalshi and use code LOCKEDON, two words, to get $25 when you trade $25. Everybody spent the offseason telling you the Ole Miss offense was going to fall off because Charlie Weis Jr. left for LSU. Florida's head coach watched the tape this week and said the opposite out loud: "I see a lot more of the same than different." John David Baker was already in the building when that system was built, so nothing had to be rebuilt — and the proof showed up Saturday in a receiver nobody was covering. Traylon Ray turned 26 routes into 7 catches and 115 yards while Deuce Alexander needed 52 routes for the same seven and 60 yards. Three days to Florida. First true road game of the year. Steven Willis makes the case that Ole Miss just became a three-target offense on the one night it needed to, walks through what Pete Golding said twice at Monday's podium about a building that already beat him once, and puts real numbers on what Trinidad Chambliss is chasing — which is not Eli Manning's streak. ⏱️ CHAPTERS 0:00 Two receivers, seven catches, and half the routes 1:15 Traylon Ray: 115 yards on 26 routes vs LSU 4:10 "He just kept telling me to wait, wait, wait" 4:29 The coordinator changed. The offense didn't. 5:29 Continuity is the most underrated thing in college football 6:11 The blood feud respect-off with Florida 8:08 Florida gave up 39 to Auburn. You can score on this defense. 10:06 Traylon Ray or Johntay Cook? The real snap-count argument 14:16 Golding said the same sentence twice on Monday 16:21 The scout: Aaron Philo, Jadan Baugh, Buster Faulkner 17:22 "Surviving the circus" is the whole ballgame 23:50 Chambliss is in the Ole Miss record book in three places 25:51 What he's actually chasing isn't Eli Manning's streak 26:10 A September national title take, with receipts 📌 THREE THINGS 1. Ray's night was efficiency, not volume. 33 snaps, 43% of the offense, 26 routes, 7 catches, 115 yards, a touchdown. He had 4 catches for 56 yards across the first three weeks, so one game was 64% of his season yardage. You can bracket two receivers. You can't bracket three. Five Rebels caught at least three balls against LSU. 2. Florida's defense gave up 39 points to Auburn. Brad White is good — he was at Kentucky when the Wildcats won in Oxford, and Golding called his front "odd structures that make the ball go east and west." All true, and they still surrendered 39 to an offense from the same family tree as this one. You can score on this defense. 3. Chambliss is already in the Ole Miss record book in three places: 3,937 passing yards, 4,464 total offense (both third all-time) and 22 touchdown passes (tied eighth). Saturday was his 10th career 300-yard game and his 16th straight with a touchdown pass, tying Eli Manning for third-longest in school history. 🦈 EVERYDAYER CLUB — ad-free episodes plus members-only Discord, 7-day free trial: https://lockedonolemiss.supercast.com 💬 FREE LOOM PRIVATE DISCORD: https://discord.gg/KF3dtcQJhC 🌐 EVERYTHING ELSE: https://olemisshub.com 🎧 EVERY PLATFORM: https://link.chtbl.com/LOOleMiss?sid=YouTube 📈 KALSHI — download Kalshi and use code LOCKEDON, two words, to get $25 when you trade $25. Ole Miss is 3-0 and ranked No. 4 in the country. Florida is 3-0 and ranked No. 21. And FanDuel has Florida favored by three and a half at home on Saturday. Florida's own head coach was asked about that on Monday and laughed at it. Steven Willis and Tyler Komis go live to figure out which side of that line is telling the truth. Four days to Gainesville. Kickoff is Saturday, September 26 at 3:30 PM ET from Ben Hill Griffin Stadium on ABC — the 28th meeting between two programs whose all-time series is dead even at 13-13-1. This is a live show. Bring your questions, your arguments, and your final score prediction, and tell us where you're watching from. 📌 THREE THINGS Florida is averaging 54.0 points a game. Not 34 — 54. The Gators put 66 on Florida Atlantic, 52 on Campbell, and 44 on Auburn on the road, and they have 12 rushing touchdowns in three weeks. Jadan Baugh has 458 rushing yards and 8 touchdowns, tied for the FBS lead, and is the first Florida back with 100 yards in four straight games since Fred Taylor in 1997. Pete Golding has been to this stadium before and it did not go well. "My last memory of going to this place was being No. 14 in the country against a 5-5 football team and getting beat," he said Monday — "much less them being a Top 25 team right now at their home place." That 2024 trip ended a playoff push. He spent Monday's podium making sure his locker room heard it. Jon Sumrall was told his team was favored over the No. 4 team in America and did not accept the compliment. He called Trinidad Chambliss the best quarterback in college football and as good a player as he has seen with his own two eyes, called Ole Miss "well coached, talented, huge challenge," and said Florida has no chance playing the way it did at Auburn — 16 penalties, 138 yards, and a win anyway. 🔴 ON TONIGHT'S SHOW • Florida is 3-0 and averaging 54 points a game • What the LSU tape says about the trip to the Swamp • Your comments, your questions, your final score 🎙️ GUEST: Tyler Komis 🦈 EVERYDAYER CLUB — ad-free episodes plus members-only Discord, 7-day free trial: https://lockedonolemiss.supercast.com 💬 FREE LOOM PRIVATE DISCORD: / discord 🌐 EVERYTHING ELSE: https://olemisshub.com 🎧 EVERY PLATFORM: https://link.chtbl.com/LOOleMiss?sid=... 📈 KALSHI — download Kalshi and use code LOCKEDON, two words, to get $25 when you trade $25. Every take on Ole Miss and Florida this week is about the spread. That's the wrong line. Jon Sumrall spent Monday telling reporters he did not know his team was favored, then called Trinidad Chambliss the best college football player he has seen with his own two eyes — and Lane Kiffin said a version of the same thing six days earlier from a podium in Baton Rouge. Two opposing head coaches in two weeks, neither with a reason to hype anybody, and the No. 4 team in the country is still getting points in Gainesville. Four days to Florida in the Swamp. First true road game of the year. Steven Willis puts two Monday press conferences side by side — Pete Golding in Oxford, Jon Sumrall in Gainesville — and comes out with an injury board, a head coach volunteering that he got a personnel call wrong four days after the biggest regular-season win of his tenure, and the most credible endorsement Chambliss has been given all season, from the man whose job this week is to beat him. ⏱️ CHAPTERS 0:00 The respect-off begins 1:47 Kewan Lacy's MRI came back better than feared 2:38 JT Lindsey, a shoestring tackle from a 50-yard run 4:21 Golding: Cunningham "definitely should have been more involved" 5:39 The second-half adjustment story, killed at the podium 7:45 No. 4 in the country and an underdog in the Swamp 14:47 Sumrall on Chambliss: best he has seen with his own two eyes 17:16 "The number is about his building" 19:27 What a road win in Gainesville would actually mean 24:47 Five red-zone trips, five scores 26:41 Not whether this team plays in January — where 📌 THREE THINGS 1. Golding did the thing head coaches do not do. Four days after beating No. 10 LSU, unprompted, he gave the Caleb Cunningham plan back: "I think this is probably something as coaches looking back on, we wish we had to do over again, and I have to do a better job with that. Caleb probably — well, definitely should have been more involved." Nobody asked. Expect that to change Saturday. 2. The adjustment story is dead. Asked about LSU's third-quarter run, Golding said: "I just love the comments after, man. That was an unbelievable, unbelievable second half adjustments. We didn't make one new call. The guys executed the call the way that they were supposed to. Not one new call in either direction." Ole Miss got a three-and-out, then turned it over and handed LSU a short field. 3. Sumrall gave up the number himself. On the Swamp he said Florida "may get some added points in Vegas for home field advantage, like more than normal" — a favorite saying out loud that the line is about his building and not his football team. Florida is 3-0 and No. 21. Ole Miss is 3-0, No. 4, and taking points on the road. 🦈 EVERYDAYER CLUB — ad-free episodes plus members-only Discord, 7-day free trial: https://lockedonolemiss.supercast.com 💬 FREE LOOM PRIVATE DISCORD: https://discord.gg/KF3dtcQJhC 🌐 EVERYTHING ELSE: https://olemisshub.com 🎧 EVERY PLATFORM: https://link.chtbl.com/LOOleMiss?sid=YouTube 💳 SQUARE — get up to $200 off Square hardware at square.com/go/college. Every Ole Miss preview this week is going to tell you the Rebels got disrespected by a betting line. That's the shallow version. John Fourcade was standing in the Grove on Saturday night, and the thing he noticed had nothing to do with the scoreboard: there was almost no purple and gold in that stadium. Ole Miss beat LSU 32-24, John David Baker gutted a defense nobody had actually tested, and now the Rebels go to Gainesville as underdogs against a Florida team whose own head coach was visibly stunned to be favored. Five days to Florida. Saturday, 3:30 ET in the Swamp. Steven Willis is joined by Ole Miss legend John Fourcade for an eyewitness account of the biggest weekend Oxford has had, a breakdown of the first-half game plan that exposed LSU, an honest look at why the third quarter keeps happening, and the full SEC Week 4 board. ⏱️ CHAPTERS 0:00 Fourcade Was In The Grove. Fourcade was there, and the detail he led with was the absence of purple. He described a town so full that cell service and Wi-Fi stopped working, a Grove at capacity, a record crowd — and not much LSU in it. He also reported the thing nobody covered afterward: no incident, on either side, all night. 2. The first half was an offensive coordinator's game, not just a quarterback's. Fourcade's read on John David Baker: put the linebackers and safeties in coverage on the slot and go to work on those matchups. Louisville had already shown Ole Miss where its own soft spots were. LSU had not been challenged by anyone, so nobody had shown them theirs. 3. The third quarter is a pattern now, not an accident — Louisville, Charlotte, and LSU. Fourcade's explanation is structural: a defensive-minded head coach takes a lead, turns the pressure down, and tries to win with the defense. The fourth quarter worked because Ole Miss went back to playing the way it played in the first. 🦈 EVERYDAYER CLUB — ad-free episodes plus the members-only Discord, 7-day free trial: https://lockedonolemiss.supercast.com 💬 FREE LOOM DISCORD: https://discord.gg/KF3dtcQJhC 🌐 EVERYTHING ELSE: https://olemisshub.com 🎧 EVERY PLATFORM: https://link.chtbl.com/LOOleMiss?sid=YouTube 🎯 FANDUEL — College Football Pick 'Em, 10 free against-the-spread picks a week, no entry fee, compete for a share of $500,000 in bonus bets. fanduel.com 📈 KALSHI — code LOCKEDON to get $25 when you trade $25. 18+. Lane Kiffin stood at his own podium in Baton Rouge six days before kickoff and called Trinidad Chambliss the best playing quarterback in the country. This show read it as an alibi. Then Chambliss went 33-of-48 for 363 yards, two touchdowns and a 14-yard keeper against a top-ten defense on ABC, and beat him 32-24. The alibi was the scouting report. Ole Miss is 3-0, 1-0 in the SEC, ranked 4th — and getting 2.5 points on the road Saturday. Five days to Florida. Saturday, 3:30 ET in Gainesville, and the Rebels are a road underdog for the first time this season. Steven Willis uses a word he does not throw around — magisterial, in honor of Ray Hudson — and spends ten minutes defending it, lays out why this defense is either good enough to win every game left or good enough to get beat, and reads the Week 4 board for what it says about where Ole Miss plays in January. ⏱️ CHAPTERS 0:00 Lane Kiffin Told Us First 4:43 The 75-Yard Drive And The Keeper LSU Never Saw 9:04 Chambliss Is The Heisman Betting Favorite 12:35 The Only Sentence That Matters About This Defense 13:23 How Ole Miss Made Leavitt Play From The Pocket 17:13 Buster Faulkner Is The Test 22:12 4th In America And Still Getting Points 23:23 Not Whether Ole Miss Plays In January. Where. 26:30 Why Florida Is Harder Than LSU Was 📌 THREE THINGS 1. Magisterial means in complete command, and the receipt belongs to the opposing head coach. 33-of-48, 363 yards, two passing touchdowns and the 14-yard keeper, against Blake Baker on national television. What separates Chambliss is that the other Heisman names produce inside systems built to protect them. His running back went out in the first half and the offense never blinked. 2. The defense is the whole season, and both halves were true in sixty minutes. Ole Miss held LSU to 330 yards and outgained them by nearly 100 — then gave up 17 unanswered and watched a 24-7 lead become 24-24. Golding had diagnosed it publicly twice before kickoff: an angle issue, guys overrunning the football without sound gap control. 3. The board says what nobody wants to say out loud. Ole Miss is 3-0, ranked 4th, just beat the No. 7 team — and is getting 2.5 in Gainesville. 67% of the tickets are on the Rebels and only 54% of the money. Every week from here decides where this team plays in January, not whether. 🦈 EVERYDAYER CLUB — ad-free episodes plus the members-only Discord, 7-day free trial: https://lockedonolemiss.supercast.com 💬 FREE LOOM DISCORD: https://discord.gg/KF3dtcQJhC 🌐 EVERYTHING ELSE: https://olemisshub.com 🎧 EVERY PLATFORM: https://link.chtbl.com/LOOleMiss?sid=YouTube 🎯 FANDUEL — College Football Pick 'Em, 10 free against-the-spread picks a week, no entry fee, compete for a share of $500,000 in bonus bets. fanduel.com 📈 KALSHI — code LOCKEDON to get $25 when you trade $25. 18+. Every Ole Miss reaction show today is leading with the celebration. That's the wrong number. Ole Miss beat LSU 32-24 with 426 total yards — and 363 of them came through the air, which means the Rebels ran for 63 yards in a game they won. Trinidad Chambliss threw it 48 times in a one-score game. Kewan Lacy had nine carries before his shoulder sent him out. Ole Miss goes to Florida on Saturday as a 2.5-point underdog, and that rushing number is the reason why. Saturday, 3:30 ET, Ole Miss at Florida. The Rebels are 3-0, 1-0 in the SEC, and getting points on the road. Steven Willis grades his own overreaction from Saturday night against the actual box score — what held, what he is retracting until he can source it — then turns the whole thing toward Gainesville and the 13-point gap between where the public's tickets are and where the money is. ⏱️ CHAPTERS 0:00 [FILL FROM CASTMAGIC AFTER RECORDING] 📌 THREE THINGS Ole Miss ran for 63 yards and won a top-ten game. 426 total, 363 passing — do the subtraction. Lacy had 43 of it on nine carries before the shoulder, and Chambliss's 14-yard touchdown run is inside the rest. There is a real explanation, but 48 pass attempts in a one-score game is a response, not a plan, and Florida is next. The "best player in America" take survives contact with the box score: 33-of-48, 363 yards, two passing touchdowns and the keeper that won it, against a top-ten defense on national television. The red zone number from Saturday night does not survive, because it still is not sourced — so it is off this show until it is. Two names travel now that did not a week ago. Traylon Ray went for 115 and a touchdown after asking to move back to receiver instead of hitting the portal. JT Lindsey took the two-point conversion from inside the one with four safer calls available. Neither is an emergency option in Gainesville anymore. 🦈 EVERYDAYER CLUB — ad-free episodes plus the members-only Discord, 7-day free trial: https://lockedonolemiss.supercast.com 💬 FREE LOOM DISCORD: / discord 🌐 EVERYTHING ELSE: https://olemisshub.com 🎧 EVERY PLATFORM: https://link.chtbl.com/LOOleMiss?sid=... 🎟️ GAMETIME — code LOCKEDON for $20 off your first purchase, terms apply. 👕 PANTS STORE — pantsstore.com 🎯 FANDUEL — College Football Pick 'Em, free to play, fanduel.com/lockedonolemiss Locked On Ole Miss is part of the Locked On Podcast Network — your team, every day. #OleMiss #HottyToddy #OleMissFootball #Florida #SEC #CollegeFootball Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Every postgame show in America is going to lead with Lane Kiffin's return to Oxford. That's the wrong story. Ole Miss beat a top-ten LSU team 32-24 because a quarterback who had not run a single designed run in three games kept it on a zone read from fourteen yards out, and because a coaching staff handed JT Lindsey the football inside the one-yard line with the game on the line. Trinidad Chambliss is the best player in America, and JT Lindsey is the name you write down tonight. Steven Willis reacts live from the Grove to a 32-24 win over LSU — the zone read keeper this show called eight hours before kickoff, the sentence he has been waiting three weeks to say about Chambliss, and the honest autopsy on a 24-7 halftime lead that turned into a one-score fourth quarter. ⏱️ CHAPTERS 0:00 [FILL FROM CASTMAGIC AFTER RECORDING] 📌 THREE THINGS Trinidad Chambliss is the best football player in America. That was a top-ten defense with NFL players at all three levels, run by a coordinator whose reputation is built on taking the ball away, on national television, and Ole Miss scored 32. The other names in the Heisman conversation produce inside systems built to protect them. Chambliss is the system. The zone read keeper was not improvisation. Chambliss had zero designed quarterback runs in three games — a deliberate decision to protect the season, not a limitation. It came out of the drawer on the one night it mattered, against the one defense least equipped to handle it, and it went for fourteen yards and a touchdown. JT Lindsey scored the two-point conversion from inside the one, against an LSU front, in the fourth quarter of the biggest game this program has played in a year. The staff had four safer calls and used none of them. That handoff tells you what they see in practice every day. 🦈 EVERYDAYER CLUB — ad-free episodes plus the members-only Discord, 7-day free trial: https://lockedonolemiss.supercast.com 💬 FREE LOOM DISCORD: / discord 🌐 EVERYTHING ELSE: https://olemisshub.com 🎧 EVERY PLATFORM: https://link.chtbl.com/LOOleMiss?sid=... 🎟️ GAMETIME — code LOCKEDON for $20 off your first purchase, terms apply. 👕 PANTS STORE — pantsstore.com 🎯 FANDUEL — College Football Pick 'Em, free to play, fanduel.com/lockedonolemiss Locked On Ole Miss is part of the Locked On Podcast Network — your team, every day. #OleMiss #HottyToddy #OleMissFootball #LSU #SEC #CollegeFootball Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Every preview of Ole Miss and LSU today has been about the crowd, the horses and Lane Kiffin's homecoming. That's the wrong line. Blake Baker is 3-10 all time when the quarterback he's facing runs for forty-five yards, Trinidad Chambliss has not run a single designed quarterback run in three games, and that was a deliberate decision to protect the season — not a limitation. Tonight the drawer opens, and LSU has two games of film on pocket passers and nothing else. Kickoff is tonight, 6:30 CT on ABC. College GameDay is on the Grove with Morgan Freeman picking. Steven Willis sits down with the one analyst in the country who picked against Ole Miss on the record and asks him to defend it eight hours before kickoff — the Blake Baker number, the red zone stat nobody is holding, and whether the most anticipated game of the season can possibly live up to the day around it. ⏱️ CHAPTERS 0:00 [FILL FROM CASTMAGIC AFTER RECORDING] 📌 THREE THINGS Blake Baker is 3-10 all time when the opposing quarterback runs for forty-five yards, and the reason is structural, not luck. Baker builds to take the pass away first, so a running quarterback forces an extra man into the box, the safety comes down, and the coverage behind it simplifies. Ole Miss has shown none of it in three games — on purpose. The yardage is not the point. LSU does not need Chambliss to actually get forty-five; LSU needs to believe he might, because the belief is what moves the safety, and the safety is what opens Deuce Alexander down the field and Caleb Cunningham underneath. That is the entire chess match, and it resolves in the first three drives. Opponents have reached the red zone five times against Ole Miss this season and scored one touchdown. The take that set after Louisville — this defense can't stop anybody — never accounted for it. Explosive-play defense and red zone defense are different skills, and this group has been excellent at the second one. 🦈 EVERYDAYER CLUB — ad-free episodes plus the members-only Discord, 7-day free trial: https://lockedonolemiss.supercast.com 💬 FREE LOOM DISCORD: / discord 🌐 EVERYTHING ELSE: https://olemisshub.com 🎧 EVERY PLATFORM: https://link.chtbl.com/LOOleMiss?sid=... 🎟️ GAMETIME — code LOCKEDON for $20 off your first purchase, terms apply. 👕 PANTS STORE — pantsstore.com 🎯 FANDUEL — College Football Pick 'Em, free to play, fanduel.com/lockedonolemiss Locked On Ole Miss is part of the Locked On Podcast Network — your team, every day. #OleMiss #HottyToddy #OleMissFootball #LSU #SEC #CollegeFootball #CollegeGameDay Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. LSU faces uncertainty as starting quarterback Sam Leavitt's status sparks speculation—could Lane Kiffin be playing mind games with the injury report? Ole Miss aims to utilize Trinidad Chambliss's running and a dangerous receiving corps, while the battle in the trenches could decide this high-stakes SEC matchup. Will Ole Miss’s defense, now possibly returning key secondary players like Antonio Kite and Shareef Denson, be enough to slow down the Tigers, or will Sam Leavitt’s dual-threat ability tilt the field? Spencer McLaughlin and Steven Willis break down both teams’ keys to victory, from quarterback carries and explosive plays to defensive depth and injury updates. Expect predictions, score breakdowns, and questions about whether LSU’s defense can outlast the Rebels in Oxford. With playoff dreams and Heisman ambitions on the line, Saturday’s showdown promises drama, strategy, and fireworks. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Everybody keeps asking whether the emotion of Lane Kiffin's return actually matters once the ball is kicked. That's the wrong argument. The interesting one broke out live on this panel: Steven Willis says the pressure is off Ole Miss entirely — lower ranked, home underdog, play loose. Chris Gordy of Locked On SEC says the exact opposite, and his reasoning is hard to dismiss. Ole Miss won eleven games last year and brings back two Heisman favorites. LSU won seven. One day to LSU. College GameDay is in the Grove. Steven joins a national panel alongside Chris Gordy and Jesse Holley to preview the Magnolia Bowl. Two Locked On hosts take opposite sides on who is actually under pressure, Gordy lays out the defensive numbers that make LSU the favorite, and the room splits on the pick with nobody backing down. ⏱️ CHAPTERS 0:00 The circus of the week: Kiffin returns to Oxford 0:45 Why none of the pressure is on the Ole Miss players 2:00 Chris Gordy disagrees: the pressure is all on Ole Miss 3:04 The one thing Ole Miss has to do on defense 3:43 Gordy on LSU's defense and the numbers 5:26 Jesse Holley: the divorce has nothing to do with the football 6:36 The counter: LSU has not played anybody yet 7:35 What beating Kiffin would mean for Pete Golding 8:10 The line: LSU -2.5, and Ole Miss are home dogs 8:26 Do not count Trinidad Chambliss out of a big moment 9:31 Strength on strength, and where the panel lands 📌 THREE THINGS 1. Two Locked On hosts, opposite reads, in real time. Steven: Ole Miss is lower ranked, at home, and gets to play loose — the best possible spot. Gordy: all the pressure is on Ole Miss, because they won eleven games last year to LSU's seven and bring back two Heisman favorites. Lose, and the only thing you have proven is that Kiffin left for the better program. 2. Gordy's case is built on a number that is hard to argue with. Through two games LSU is first — not just in the SEC, but in the country — in fewest yards allowed. Ole Miss is statistically dead last. Steven's answer is the counter: mark Tre'Dez Green out of the game, stop nerfing the front seven to protect the back end, and the defensive line advantage is actually Ole Miss. 3. The turnover argument now has a third independent voice. Gordy, unprompted, raised Sam Leavitt throwing picks in the red zone last week. That is the third person on three separate shows this week to arrive at the same conclusion without coordination: LSU's quarterback can be made to give the football away, and the extra possessions are how Ole Miss wins. 🦈 EVERYDAYER CLUB — Locked On Ole Miss ad-free, plus members-only Discord. 7-day free trial: https://lockedonolemiss.supercast.com 💬 LOOM PRIVATE DISCORD — Free, and the game thread is live Saturday: https://discord.gg/KF3dtcQJhC 🌐 EVERYTHING ELSE — https://olemisshub.com 🎧 EVERY PLATFORM — https://link.chtbl.com/LOOleMiss?sid=YouTube 🎙️ Thanks to the panel for having Steven on, and to Chris Gordy of Locked On SEC and Jesse Holley. Every conversation about this game has been about the atmosphere. That's the wrong line. Ole Miss gets its full starting secondary on the field for the first time all season — the one open question on this team since Louisville — and it arrives in the same week Louisiana Tech put three interceptions and five sacks on Sam Leavitt. The secondary does not have to be good tonight. It has to be serviceable. That is the whole game. Hours until LSU. College GameDay is in the Grove. Steven Willis is joined by Tom Vanderford, the mayor of Corinth, for the fan's view of the biggest home game Oxford has had in sixty-four years. They land independently on the same X-factor, the same read on LSU, and nearly the same final score — and Vanderford names the one thing Ole Miss got in September that LSU has not gotten yet. ⏱️ CHAPTERS 0:00 The mayor of Corinth on the biggest night in Oxford 4:53 Ole Miss finally has its full starting secondary 6:00 Best quarterback, best running back, best lines 7:54 Louisiana Tech got 3 picks and 5 sacks on Leavitt 9:03 Playing on the road in the SEC is a different game 12:06 Support the show 12:53 The X-factor: Caleb Odom, if he is healthy 14:05 Shareef Denson and what it unlocks in the back end 16:54 LSU does not know what its soft spots are 17:58 The Discord is free Saturday night 20:17 Vanderford's prediction: Ole Miss 38, LSU 28 21:38 Ole Miss is going through it. LSU is manufacturing it. 23:15 Somebody punched us in the mouth and we responded 24:06 Gameday plans, the Grove, and Morgan Freeman 📌 THREE THINGS 1. Vanderford's opening point is the one nobody made all week: Ole Miss has not had its full starting secondary all season, and it gets it back tonight. The secondary is the whole conditional on this defense, and it does not need to be good. It has to be serviceable — because if the back end holds, the front seven stops getting nerfed and Maldonado, Blake Purchase and Landon Barnes get turned loose. 2. Shareef Denson is the name to watch, and not for the obvious reason. He is the one defensive back with no stink on him from the first two weeks. If Denson holds up at strong safety, Edwin Joseph slides from nickel to corner and the whole back end reorganizes into something that lets Ole Miss rush three, drop eight, and never play man against Sam Leavitt. 3. Two people got to the same place from opposite directions. Steven: LSU does not know what its own soft spots are, because nothing has forced them to find out. Vanderford, unprompted, twenty minutes later: "Somebody jumped up and punched us in the mouth and we had to respond. I don't think LSU's had that yet." Same argument, two voices, no coordination. 🦈 EVERYDAYER CLUB — Locked On Ole Miss ad-free, plus members-only Discord. 7-day free trial: https://lockedonolemiss.supercast.com 💬 LOOM PRIVATE DISCORD — Free, and the game thread is live tonight: https://discord.gg/KF3dtcQJhC 🌐 EVERYTHING ELSE — https://olemisshub.com 🎧 EVERY PLATFORM — https://link.chtbl.com/LOOleMiss?sid=YouTube 🔧 SUPPLYHOUSE — 300,000 plumbing, HVAC and electrical products from 500 trusted brands, with 1-2 day delivery to 90% of the country. Every preview of LSU–Ole Miss has been about the quarterbacks, the coaches and the storyline. That's the wrong line of sight. This game gets decided at the line of scrimmage, and the Ole Miss front seven can only be what it's supposed to be if the back end stops giving away free plays. Three coverage busts against Charlotte all came off the same look — a faked bubble screen with the tight end leaking out behind it. LSU has an All-America tight end. You will see that concept again on Saturday night. One day to LSU. Steven Willis sits down with Ole Miss letterman and former NFL offensive lineman Todd Wade, who was on the 1997 team that went into Baton Rouge and won a game nobody gave them, for a conversation about the part of Saturday that won't lead any broadcast — the four front-seven players who have to have a day, the quarterback run wrinkle that's been sitting in a drawer for two weeks, and a coin-toss question neither of them could settle. ⏱️ CHAPTERS 0:00 Trench play, and the problem underneath the problem 1:12 The front seven can't be nerfed by the back end 2:29 The three Charlotte busts all came off the same look 3:52 Containing a quarterback who can run 6:18 The +1 run game Ole Miss hasn't shown yet 7:47 Alpha dogs, and past Ole Miss–LSU games 8:29 Engagement + sponsors 9:00 SupplyHouse 10:09 Aura 12:54 1997 in Baton Rouge: the John Avery game 15:14 What it was like blocking for John Avery 16:11 The four players Todd wants to see Saturday 17:25 What he saw from the offensive line against Charlotte 19:40 Six or seven deep up front 20:44 5-Hour Energy 21:52 How this game actually plays out 24:16 Do you defer if you win the toss? 25:48 The middle eight 25:58 Todd's prediction 26:42 The Everydayer Club, and one day to go 📌 THREE THINGS 1. Todd Wade's diagnosis of the Charlotte breakdowns is the most optimistic thing anybody has said this week, and it isn't spin. "A lot of it was mental. So I guess it didn't really matter whether Charlotte or someone else — you're still making the mental error." If it were a talent problem you'd need players you don't have time to go get. A mental problem is a week's work. His conclusion: "If we put that together for this game, I feel really good about it." 2. There has been no plus-one run game at Ole Miss this season, because Trinidad Chambliss hasn't run the football — and that's a choice, not a limitation. You don't put your quarterback on the ground up thirty against Charlotte. Wade goes further than protecting him: "With someone like Trinidad, you can put him in an empty set and run the ball all day. You're taking an extra guy out of the box, putting just linemen matched up." Against a fast, free-releasing front, that's a real answer. 3. Four names, all in the front seven: Will Echoles, who said himself this week that the first two games have been slow for him; Kam Franklin, matched up against LSU's left tackle for most of the night; and Tahj Butler, who Wade thinks has earned more snaps than he's getting. His final number is Ole Miss 34, LSU 31 — with two Lucas Carneiro field goals, and maybe three. 🦈 EVERYDAYER CLUB — Locked On Ole Miss completely ad-free, plus members-only Discord access. Every preview of Ole Miss and LSU this week has been about Lane Kiffin and the crowd. That's the wrong line. LSU's quarterback room has two touchdown passes and five rushing touchdowns, and Blake Baker's defense has spent two games against pocket passers and nothing else. Trinidad Chambliss is not a pocket passer, and the designed quarterback run Ole Miss has not shown all year is the one thing LSU has no film to prepare for. One day to LSU. College GameDay is in the Grove. Steven Willis stops surveying and picks a side: three reasons Ole Miss wins, three keys, three names, an X-factor nobody has mentioned all week, and a final score. Lane Kiffin stood at his own podium this week and admitted the coaching familiarity favors Ole Miss — then volunteered the receipt that proves it. ⏱️ CHAPTERS 0:00 64 years, one day, and Ole Miss wins this game 2:22 Reason 1: Ole Miss has the better quarterback 6:03 Reason 3: The loudest night in stadium history 8:18 Can the crowd actually decide this game? 9:15 Does the Kiffin-Golding headset edge matter? 11:36 Support the show 12:13 KEYS: Open the playbook 14:45 Key 3: Win the middle eight, defer the toss 16:03 The free key: 67,000 vs helmet communication 20:06 Players to watch, and the X-factor 23:40 The line, and why the case against Ole Miss is hollow 25:15 THE PICK: Ole Miss 35, LSU 31 27:47 GameDay in Oxford, and the sign-off 📌 THREE THINGS 1. The headset ran one direction for three years. Kiffin says what bothers him out loud, over the headset, in real time, and Golding stood on the other end of it for three of Kiffin's six years. Coordinators never send it back up. Kiffin admitted it himself this week: "Pete sat there for the years we were together and heard me say exactly what we don't like to play against." 2. Two plays are still in the drawer with no film on either. No designed quarterback keeper all season, no jet sweep at all. LSU's front has had a free release all year because nobody made them count the quarterback as a runner; the moment Chambliss can keep it, a defender leaves the box for free. Todd Wade said on this show to put him in empty and run it anyway, for the box count. 3. LSU is first in the conference in yards allowed, and that number is hollow. It was built against Clemson, who then scored one touchdown on Georgia Southern, and Louisiana Tech, who hung eighty the week before on a team that allowed forty-two to an NAIA school. Ole Miss has been punched and knows where its soft spot is. LSU has not, and finds out live, at night, in Oxford. 🦈 EVERYDAYER CLUB — Locked On Ole Miss ad-free, plus members-only Discord. 7-day free trial: https://lockedonolemiss.supercast.com 💬 LOOM PRIVATE DISCORD — Free. Everybody has this game filed under revenge, atmosphere and Lane Kiffin's return. That's the wrong line. Ole Miss gave up nine points to Charlotte and did not allow a touchdown — three field goals, nothing else — and that is a lower point total than LSU allowed against either Louisiana Tech or Clemson. The defense that got buried after week one just posted the best scoring number of any of the three teams involved in this conversation, and nobody has said it out loud once. Hours until LSU. College GameDay is in the Grove. Steven Willis joins Richard Denson on The 24th Floor on ABC 24 for the Magnolia Bowl. They get into what actually translates from the Charlotte tape, why the back end of the defense decides whether the front seven ever gets turned loose, the quarterback run game LSU has no film on, and a six-year sample size that tells you exactly how to beat a Lane Kiffin offense. ⏱️ CHAPTERS 0:00 Richard Denson sets it up: Ole Miss 41-9, and now LSU 1:49 What Vaught-Hemingway is going to be like Saturday night 3:05 What still bothers Ole Miss fans about how Kiffin left 4:10 Is Ole Miss too focused on Lane instead of on LSU? 5:18 What from the Charlotte win actually translates to LSU 6:54 The back end has to be serviceable to free the front seven 8:00 The quarterback run game LSU has not seen on tape 9:03 Why 27 carries for 80 yards is still a good game 9:50 Golding vs Kiffin: whoever does not outthink themselves 10:27 What decides it: home field, quarterback, the trenches 10:45 ABC 24's pregame special, live from Oxford 📌 THREE THINGS 1. The most useful thing from Charlotte was not the 41-9 or the 27-0 halftime lead. It was nine points allowed and zero touchdowns. Ole Miss has the lowest points-allowed number of the three ranked teams in this discussion, better than what LSU gave up to Louisiana Tech or Clemson. The unit everybody wrote off after Louisville quietly put up the best scoring defense number on the board. 2. Take away the run game and a Lane Kiffin offense has historically struggled, and there is a six-year sample size on that at Ole Miss specifically. That is not a hot take — it is the scouting report Pete Golding has been building toward. Make Sam Leavitt beat you through the air rather than on the ground, and the matchup turns. 3. The whole game reduces to three things: home field, the better quarterback, and the play in the trenches. Win two of the three and you probably win the football game. Two of them are already settled — the building is full and Trinidad Chambliss is the best player on the field. The trenches are the one thing still genuinely open. 🦈 EVERYDAYER CLUB — Locked On Ole Miss ad-free, plus members-only Discord. 7-day free trial: https://lockedonolemiss.supercast.com 💬 LOOM PRIVATE DISCORD — Free, and the game thread is live tonight: https://discord.gg/KF3dtcQJhC 🌐 EVERYTHING ELSE — https://olemisshub.com 🎧 EVERY PLATFORM — https://link.chtbl.com/LOOleMiss?sid=YouTube 📺 THE 24TH FLOOR — Thanks to Richard Denson and ABC 24 for having Steven on. Every preview of LSU–Ole Miss has been about Lane Kiffin walking back into Oxford. That's not the question. The question is a number Chris Gordy brought onto the show: through two games LSU ranks first in the SEC in yards allowed, and Ole Miss ranks dead last. The Ole Miss half of that is real — Louisville got twelve explosive plays for 340 yards. But LSU's half was built against a Clemson team that then scored one touchdown against Georgia Southern, and a Louisiana Tech team that isn't a measuring stick. One of these defenses has already been exposed and knows what to fix. The other one finds out live. Two days to LSU. Steven Willis is joined by Chris Gordy of Locked On SEC for the crossover, and they end up in completely different places — Willis on Ole Miss 35-31, Gordy on LSU 38-23. In between: the coin-toss decision neither of them could settle, the three offensive wrinkles Ole Miss hasn't put on tape yet, the third receiver who decides this thing, and why both hosts think the whole game comes down to about four plays nobody can name in advance. ⏱️ CHAPTERS 0:00 Storylines and stakes 1:42 "If LSU says the sky's blue, Ole Miss says it's red" 3:15 Why week three is a mercy for both teams 4:50 Does bulletin board material matter in a game this big? 5:38 Billy Cannon, Halloween night, and why it's the Magnolia Bowl 6:26 The chess match when both staffs know everything 7:01 This game comes down to four plays 8:54 Should Ole Miss defer if they win the toss? 9:22 LSU is first in the SEC in yards allowed. The stat of the week cuts both ways. LSU first in the SEC in yards allowed, Ole Miss last — and Gordy put the caveat on it himself in the same breath. What it actually measures is schedule. Ole Miss has been punched in the mouth and knows exactly what is broken in the back end. LSU has not trailed, has not been tested, and does not yet know where its own soft spot is. Saturday night in a full stadium is a rough place to find out. 2. Three Ole Miss wrinkles have not been on tape once this season, and none of them were needed against Louisville or Charlotte: designed quarterback runs for Trinidad Chambliss, the jet sweep, and a package for Deuce Knight, who is six-five and two-thirty and hurdled a defender in this stadium two weeks ago. John David Baker has played two quarterbacks at the same time before, at East Carolina. Gordy set the over-under at seven and a half designed Chambliss runs. Willis is taking the over. 3. If LSU takes a lead into the second half, Gordy does not think this ends as a three-point game: "He's petty enough to put the foot on the gas pedal. If they smell blood in the water, we're gonna really put the exclamation point on this." Willis's answer was that it runs both ways — if Ole Miss is up ten in the third quarter, Ole Miss is stepping on it too. Nobody is calling off the dogs on Saturday, whichever way it breaks. 🦈 EVERYDAYER CLUB — Locked On Ole Miss completely ad-free, plus members-only Discord access. Every preview of Ole Miss and LSU this week has been about whether the Rebels can handle the moment. That's the wrong question. Ole Miss has been playing defense for nine months — all of this happened to them, and their only job since December has been to keep winning. LSU is the program that has to justify its existence on Saturday night. Three days to LSU. Two days to Miami at Wake Forest. Spencer McLaughlin is joined by Steven Willis of Locked On Ole Miss to break down where the pressure in this top-ten matchup actually sits, why the Rebels' defensive busts are the one thing that ends their night, and the advantage Ole Miss gets for free just by being loud. Then Alex Donno joins for a Friday-night ACC upset alert as Miami travels to a nearly sold-out Wake Forest blackout. ⏱️ CHAPTERS 00:00 LSU at Ole Miss with Steven Willis: the hype, the stakes 00:48 Sponsor break 03:30 What LSU still has to prove beyond Clemson 05:08 Which fan base is feeling the pressure more? 08:01 Ole Miss defense: the busts that decide the game 09:06 LSU's first road environment of the season 10:26 Miami at Wake Forest with Alex Donno: upset alert 15:57 Wake Forest keys, Gio Lopez, and score predictions 📌 THREE THINGS 1. Ole Miss has been playing defense for nine months. In Steven Willis's framing, all of this happened to the Rebels — they were the victim in the situation, and their entire job since December has been to keep the Ferrari on the road. LSU is the one that has to justify its existence: national-championship team or not, coach worth the contract, roster worth the price. None of it is answered, and Saturday is the first time anybody gets to check the receipt. 2. The asymmetry decides the week. Ole Miss can lose this football game and still be a 2-0 top-ten team in the playoff conversation Sunday morning. LSU cannot. That is why the pressure sits where it sits, regardless of ranking or point spread. 3. The busts are the whole game. Against Louisville, Ole Miss gave up twelve busted plays for over three hundred yards — that game was only a game because of them. Willis: do that against LSU and "it's not even a competition in that realm." Pete Golding has now described the same unsolved problem two weeks running: an angle issue, players overrunning the football, no gap control. 🦈 EVERYDAYER CLUB — ad-free, plus members-only Discord. 7-day free trial: https://lockedonolemiss.supercast.com 🌐 EVERYTHING ELSE — https://olemisshub.com 🎧 EVERY PLATFORM — https://link.chtbl.com/LOOleMiss?sid=YouTube 💬 THE LOOM PRIVATE DISCORD — free to join: https://discord.gg/KF3dtcQJhC Locked On College Football and Locked On Ole Miss are part of the Locked On Podcast Network — your team, every day. #CollegeFootball #OleMiss #LSU #HottyToddy #SEC Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Every preview of LSU–Ole Miss has said the same thing about the coaching matchup: both staffs know each other, six years in the same building, so it cancels out. That's the wrong read. It isn't symmetrical, and the reason is the headset. Lane Kiffin is an emotional coach — when a look is giving his offense problems, he says so, out loud, in real time. Pete Golding listened to that for six years. Golding, as the coordinator, was never getting on the headset and telling his head coach what frustrated him, because that is not how that relationship works. One of these men broadcast what he hates to play against. The other one kept it to himself. Two days to LSU. Steven Willis joined Deuce McAllister and [CO-HOST] on WWL Radio in New Orleans to give the Ole Miss side of Saturday to an LSU audience — what Oxford actually looks like this weekend, why the front seven is being held back, how you defend a quarterback whose touchdowns come on the ground, the two Rebels nobody is naming nationally, and a final score he was happy to say out loud in Louisiana. ⏱️ CHAPTERS 0:00 WWL sets the table for Saturday night 1:00 The temperature in Oxford, and a team going about its business 1:39 The Lane Kiffin roast, and a name misspelled on purpose 2:20 What 400,000 people does to a town of twenty thousand 3:08 Why College GameDay feels reluctantly welcome this year 4:36 The trenches, and why the offensive line will be fine 5:14 The front seven is being held back to protect the back end 6:07 Sam Leavitt: two passing touchdowns, five rushing 7:14 The headset argument: why the familiarity isn't symmetrical 8:38 A coin-flip game that comes down to four plays 9:01 Pete Golding as a head coach versus Pete Golding as a coordinator 10:13 Caleb Odom and Caleb Cunningham 11:24 The prediction 11:55 The hosts push back 📌 THREE THINGS 1. The familiarity edge belongs to Ole Miss, and not for the reason everyone is giving. Both staffs have thousands of reps against each other and both are changing their signals this week. But Kiffin spent six years saying out loud what bothered him, over a headset, with his defensive coordinator listening. Golding was never doing that in reverse. Different calls don't fix an information gap that ran one direction for six years — the players still know what the check is going to be no matter what it's called. 2. On Sam Leavitt, the honest version: two touchdown passes, five rushing touchdowns. This is not a quarterback who can't throw — he was the top-ranked player in the transfer portal and SEC Offensive Player of the Week after the Clemson win. But when LSU has needed a score, it has usually come from his legs. So the assignment is the one Pete Golding named at his own podium: make him become a pocket passer. The failure mode is man coverage with the secondary's backs turned, where he steps up, gets outside, and nobody on the back end sees it until it's forty yards down the field. 3. The name nobody is saying is Caleb Odom. He plays the flex tight end spot, caught a touchdown against Louisville and became the go-to third-down option in that game, missed Charlotte with an injury, and Golding said this week he expects him back. That matters because the way Ole Miss hurt Blake Baker's defense a year ago was at the tight end — Baker wants to pressure you, the answer to pressure is getting the ball out fast, and a six-six flex tight end is too big for a nickel and too fast for a linebacker on exactly that throw. 🦈 EVERYDAYER CLUB — Locked On Ole Miss completely ad-free, plus members-only Discord access. Every preview of LSU–Ole Miss this week has been about Lane Kiffin's return to Oxford. That's the wrong question. The question is whether anybody actually knows how good LSU's defense is. The Tigers have allowed 12.0 points a game — but that number was built on a 51-10 win over a Clemson team that scored one touchdown against Georgia Southern the following week, and a 45-14 win over Louisiana Tech. Two games, and neither of them told us anything. Three days to LSU. Steven Willis sits down with Ole Miss letterman Bill Flowers, who played his first college game in Death Valley as a redshirt freshman in 2001, for a conversation that moves from what this rivalry actually feels like from inside the helmet to the specific football that decides Saturday night — the perimeter, the deep ball, and the one thing Ole Miss has already learned about itself that LSU hasn't. ⏱️ CHAPTERS 0:00 Cold open 0:36 Gametime 1:04 The Oxford story everybody got wrong 3:02 Death Valley, 2001: Bill Flowers' first trip to Baton Rouge 5:25 "Two silverbacks about to clash" 6:00 The rivalry, the atmosphere, and the week's war of words 10:34 Engagement + sponsors 11:15 Kalshi 13:02 What we actually know about LSU's defense 14:00 The matchups — and who knows their own weaknesses 16:35 The secondary: a chemistry problem, not a talent problem 17:50 Engagement + sponsors 19:03 FanDuel 20:29 How Kiffin attacks the perimeter 22:57 The offensive key: the deep ball buys the run game 24:53 Bill's prediction 25:50 "If it's close, the advantage goes to Ole Miss" 26:28 The Everydayer Club and what's next 📌 THREE THINGS 1. LSU's twelve points a game is the most-quoted number of the week and the least examined. The Tigers beat Clemson 51-10 and Louisiana Tech 45-14. Clemson then scored a single touchdown against Georgia Southern in a 22-7 win. Bill Flowers extends the point in the direction nobody wants to go: we don't know how good Ole Miss's defense is either. But Ole Miss has already been punched in the mouth this season, and that is information LSU does not yet have about itself. 2. The blueprint is inverted from what you'd expect. Flowers does not say establish the run and then take your shots. He says the deep ball is what buys the run: "If we do not create a deep ball early and often, it's going to be hard for us to establish the run the way that we want." Hit one over the top to Deuce Alexander early, the safety has to respect it, the box lightens, and Kewan Lacy is running at a lighter front. 3. Flowers thinks this game is not close in either direction — Ole Miss wins by more than you'd expect, or it gets away from them. But on the branch where it is close, he plants his flag: "If it's close, the advantage goes to Ole Miss — because Kiffin has repeatedly shown that he does not like and does not do well under pressure." His number: Ole Miss 42, LSU 27. 🦈 EVERYDAYER CLUB — Locked On Ole Miss completely ad-free, plus members-only Discord access. Every preview of Ole Miss and LSU this week has been about whether the Rebels can handle the moment. That's the wrong question. LSU is ranked higher, favored on the road, and carrying the most expensive roster in college football — and Lane Kiffin left a thirteen-win program to go build it. The pressure belongs to the man flying in, not the one already here. Three days to LSU. Steven Willis puts Paul Finebaum's must-win verdict next to the money, the ranking and the betting line, and finds an asymmetry nobody is talking about. Then the LSU player who actually decides Saturday night — and he isn't the quarterback. Last week he lined up in six different places, including quarterback. And finally, the storyline that somehow went national this week, started by both head coaches on the same afternoon without either one being asked twice. ⏱️ CHAPTERS 00:00 All the pressure is on Lane Kiffin 04:31 Paul Finebaum: is this a must-win for Kiffin? 07:50 Kiffin vs. Golding — who has more to lose? 09:21 Sponsor break 11:18 The one LSU player Ole Miss has to account for 12:24 Trey'Dez Green's six alignments 13:52 The fake split-zone concept that beats an edge defender 17:39 Sponsor break 19:13 The Oxford safety narrative 21:50 Why there is no safety problem in Oxford 23:54 What this crowd's real assignment is 26:27 The Everydayer Club 27:24 Close 📌 THREE THINGS 1. The receipts run one direction. LSU is No. 7, Ole Miss is No. 8, and LSU is favored on the road. CBS Sports polled 50+ athletic directors, general managers, cap executives and agents and put LSU's roster No. 1 in America — north of $40 million, by some estimates as high as $55 million. Ole Miss came back in the upper $30 millions. Higher ranked, favored, better funded, and Kiffin left a 13-win program for a 7-6 one to get there. Paul Finebaum, asked if Saturday is a must-win for him: "Yes. Yes. Yes." 2. Trey'Dez Green is the matchup problem, not the quarterback. He's 6-7 and 242 out of Zachary, Louisiana, wears LSU's legacy No. 7, led every SEC tight end with seven touchdowns last season, and his twelve career scores are an LSU record at the position. Against Louisiana Tech: 6 catches, 104 yards, a touchdown, 45 yards after the catch, four of the six moving the chains. Last week LSU lined him up wide, in the slot, in-line, at H-back, at fullback and at quarterback on a direct snap. 3. The concept they run him on attacks discipline, not talent. Green motions flat across the formation while the zone run goes away from him. The edge defender crashes to kill the seal block — which is exactly what he's coached to do. Third time, they slip Green out behind him. Pete Golding has now said twice in four days that his defense has "an angle issue" with guys "overrunning the football and not having gap control." That's the game. 🦈 EVERYDAYER CLUB — ad-free, plus members-only Discord. 7-day free trial: https://lockedonolemiss.supercast.com 🌐 EVERYTHING ELSE — https://olemisshub.com 🎧 EVERY PLATFORM — https://link.chtbl.com/LOOleMiss?sid=YouTube 💬 THE LOOM PRIVATE DISCORD — free to join: https://discord.gg/KF3dtcQJhC 🎟️ GAMETIME — Upfront pricing, seat views before you buy. [FOUR/THREE] days to LSU. Steven Willis and the Rebel Squad go live to take the whole game apart: where the pressure actually sits and why Paul Finebaum agrees, the four things Ole Miss has to do to win this football game, the LSU player nobody in Mississippi is talking enough about, and the squad's score predictions. Plus your questions, live in the chat the whole way. ⏱️ CHAPTERS 0:00 [FILL FROM CASTMAGIC AFTER THE STREAM] 📌 THREE THINGS The pressure belongs to Lane Kiffin, not Ole Miss. Paul Finebaum, asked on national radio whether Saturday is a must-win for him: "Yes. Yes. Yes." LSU is ranked seventh to Ole Miss's eighth, favored on the road, and carrying the most expensive roster in America — CBS Sports polled 50+ athletic directors, general managers, cap executives and agents and put LSU No. 1, north of $40 million. Kiffin left a 13-win program for a 7-6 one to go build it. And the asymmetry is the whole week: Ole Miss can lose this game and still be a 2-0 top-ten team in the playoff conversation Sunday morning. LSU cannot. Four things decide it. Stop the busts — against Louisville, Ole Miss gave up 12 busted plays for over 300 yards, and Pete Golding has now described the same unsolved problem twice in four days: "an angle issue," guys "overrunning the football and not having gap control." Tackle in space. Stay on schedule, because Kiffin himself said Chambliss and Kewan Lacy produce maybe two negative plays in a whole game. And win the noise — Saturday is LSU's first road environment of the season, and Golding says 67,000 people breaks the sideline-to-helmet communication. Account for Trey'Dez Green. He's 6-7 and 242 out of Zachary, Louisiana, wears LSU's legacy No. 7, led every SEC tight end with seven touchdowns last season, and his twelve career scores are an LSU record at the position. Against Louisiana Tech: 6 catches, 104 yards, a touchdown, 45 yards after the catch. Last week LSU lined him up wide, in the slot, in-line, at H-back, at fullback and at quarterback on a direct snap. Four days from LSU, the two men at the center of the biggest story in college football spent Monday complimenting each other into the ground — and that should worry Ole Miss fans more than a grudge would. Pete Golding, asked about facing the staff he worked for for three and a half years, compared it to a round of golf with your buddies. Lane Kiffin opened his own press conference by deflating the entire premise: "Pete's not gonna tackle anybody. I'm not gonna throw any touchdowns." Then Kiffin told the story of Nick Saban interviewing Golding and calling it the most impressive interview he had ever seen. And each of them handed the other the advantage — Kiffin says the familiarity favors Ole Miss because Golding spent three years hearing what Kiffin hates to play against, and Golding says knowing somebody that well is a trap that makes you overthink. One calls it a weapon. The other calls it a trap. Same three and a half years. Then the part of this week that nobody outside Mississippi has explained properly: why Ole Miss fans are actually angry. It is not about losing a coach. Ole Miss has not won an SEC championship since 1963, and 2025 was finally the year — a playoff run, a pass away from playing for everything. And instead of getting to enjoy November and December, this fan base spent it watching planes to Gainesville and Baton Rouge and a coach working the portal. Saturday is closure. Then the sentence of the week. Kiffin on Ole Miss: "You're talking about the best-playing quarterback, running back, and kicker in the country, coming back." All three, one breath, kicker included. He called Trinidad Chambliss the best-playing quarterback in the country last season, compared the Chambliss–Kewan Lacy backfield to Matt Leinart and Reggie Bush, and told his own locker room the pressure is not on them. Every word of it is true, and true is exactly what makes it work. And then the players, who are the only people in Mississippi who have already moved on. Chambliss on the entire circus: "It's going to be a crazy weekend in Oxford, but it's just another game." On seeing his old head coach: "It's going to be weird. It is what it is." He has been with Pete Golding and John David Baker every day for eight months. The one thing the locker room looked back at was Deuce Knight's hurdle — which Chambliss says Knight had been promising all week he would do. Plus the number: FanDuel has Ole Miss +3.5 at home with a total of 58.5, and what a home underdog in September is actually being told about the road in front of it. This is the first time Ole Miss and LSU have met with both teams ranked in the top ten since 1962, when No. 6 Ole Miss beat No. 4 LSU 15-7 in Baton Rouge. CHAPTERS 00:00 Cold open 01:20 The respect-off: two podiums, not one shot fired 03:18 They each handed the other the advantage 08:23 Why Ole Miss fans are actually angry 14:08 Kiffin on Chambliss, and reaching for Leinart and Bush 22:15 The players already moved on 24:48 The number, and what a home dog is being told Locked On Ole Miss - Your Team, Every Day. John Fourcade joins Locked On Ole Miss with LSU five days out, and he starts where the fanbase is loudest: the secondary. His read is not the one you have been hearing. "If a guy's not covering a guy he's supposed to cover, that's a blown assignment. That's not athletic ability." A former Rebel quarterback telling you the back end's problem is execution and not talent is a very different conversation than the one happening on the message boards. We start with what the 41-9 win over Charlotte was actually for. Fourcade's answer: get out clean. No injuries, fix the blown assignments, work the running game, and let Trinidad Chambliss go sit down after 23-of-26 for 225 yards and two touchdowns. Pete Golding said at Monday's podium that Ladarian Clardy had a strong game at free safety, and Fourcade explains why a free safety you can count on decides how the entire back end holds up. Then LSU. Fourcade gives Ole Miss the edge at quarterback, at running back, on the offensive line and along the defensive front, and LSU is still laying the points. We get into why, what Lane Kiffin's return to Oxford does to the number, and his read on an LSU roster he says was built with "$40-something million." His bottom line on Saturday night: "The team with the least amount of turnovers or the least amount of mistakes will win that football game." We also get into the quick passing game as the answer to a hyper-aggressive front, the 2023 Penn State comparison, why he thinks this game never should have moved off Halloween weekend, and the rest of the Week 3 SEC board including Georgia at Arkansas, Mississippi State at South Carolina, and Florida at Auburn. Plus Deuce Knight's hurdle, which Fourcade says is going on a poster. They Showed Nothing And Won By 32 | Cunningham Is Going To Be A Problem | Ole Miss vs LSU is HERE! Ole Miss football beat Charlotte 41-9 on Saturday at Vaught-Hemingway, and with LSU six days away the most important thing about the afternoon is how little of it told you anything. That was the objective. Do as little as possible, show only what you want seen, get out clean. Trinidad Chambliss went 23-of-26 for 225 yards and two touchdowns without throwing an interception. Kewan Lacy carried 13 times for 87 yards and two scores and then sat down. Lucas Carneiro hit from 57 and from 41 and went 5-for-5 on extra points. Charlotte scored nine points on three Ian Kelly field goals and did not reach the end zone. But the name to write down is Caleb Cunningham. Six catches, 65 yards, and a role that is growing every week. He is going to be a problem for people as this season goes on, and this show explains why. We also take the first real look at LSU on Saturday night — and the game that keeps coming to mind is not a recent one. It is the 2023 Peach Bowl against Penn State, when Ole Miss attacked a hyper-aggressive defense and won 38-25. John David Baker was on that staff. The blueprint is sitting right there.
