Kansas State football is coming off a 31-26 loss to Cincinnati, and the result raises an even bigger question as the Wildcats move forward: how good is Cincinnati, and what does that say about K-State? The Big 12 remains incredibly difficult to figure out. Cincinnati's offensive line earned significant praise during the Big 12 Squad discussion, with its interior offensive line emerging as one of the conference's biggest early-season strengths. That's important context for Kansas State. The Wildcats didn't simply lose another conference game. They lost to a Cincinnati team that might be considerably better than many expected entering the season. Now Cincinnati travels to Arizona for another opportunity to prove it. For Kansas State, however, there isn't much time to wait around and find out exactly how good the Bearcats are. Collin Klein and the Wildcats have reached their bye week needing answers after the loss. The Big 12 appears wide open, but that also means every conference loss becomes increasingly costly. Kansas State still has opportunities ahead. But after falling to Cincinnati, the Wildcats need to use the bye week to figure out what has to change before Houston and the next stretch of Big 12 play. #KansasState #KStateFootball #Big12 Photo Credit: Evert Nelson IMAGN Go AD Free and More with the Everydayer's Club! Kansas State football may be getting closer to unleashing Linkon Cure, and Collin Klein quietly revealed why the talented young tight end hasn't made a bigger impact yet. Klein isn't concerned about Cure's lack of targets. In fact, Kansas State has already designed opportunities for him. Klein indicated there have been potential big plays where Cure was open, but protection issues or missed assignments prevented the football from ever getting to him. Now his opportunity could grow significantly. With Will Anciaux potentially unavailable and Garrett Oakley continuing to struggle with costly drops, the Wildcats could have the perfect opening to expand Cure's role coming out of the bye week. We've already seen what Cure can provide as a blocker. He helped spring Rodney Fields on a 19-yard touchdown against Cincinnati, and he's flashed his athleticism when given opportunities in the passing game. But Kansas State didn't win his massive recruiting battle just to have Cure block. The Wildcats have two weeks to prepare for Houston, and this could be the perfect opportunity to start building more of the offense around him. K-State has already seen different receivers emerge throughout the season. Maybe Cure is next. Because if the opportunities are already being designed for him, it might only be a matter of time before Kansas State's young tight end has his breakout game. #KansasState #KStateFootball #LinkonCure Source: The episode discusses Klein's comments about designed opportunities for Cure, his blocking and the possibility of an expanded role after the bye. Kansas State’s loss to Cincinnati raised plenty of questions, but Collin Klein’s own defense of his offensive line created one of the biggest. Klein pushed back on criticism of the Wildcats' offensive line by pointing toward the numbers. Kansas State is averaging 5.2 yards per carry. Avery Johnson hasn't been sacked this season. The Wildcats also rank ninth nationally in runs of 10-plus yards per game. Those are strong arguments for an offensive line that entered the season surrounded by questions. But they also create another question. If Klein has that much confidence in his offensive line, why didn't Kansas State trust that group in a critical 4th-and-short situation? K-State had an opportunity near the goal line where an aggressive decision could have completely changed the 31-26 loss. There's also the Jay Harris question. Harris didn't play a single offensive snap against Cincinnati despite possessing the physical running style that could potentially help Kansas State in short-yardage situations. None of this means Klein suddenly can't coach. He's a first-year head coach making these decisions for the first time, and some growing pains should probably be expected. But Kansas State lost its first Big 12 game by five points. When the margin is that small, every decision matters. And Klein's own words about his offensive line make this particular decision even more interesting. #KansasState #KStateFootball #Big12 Photo Credit: Scott Sewell IMAGN Go AD Free and More with the Everydayer's Club! Kansas State allowed 271 rushing yards in its 31-26 loss to Cincinnati, but Collin Klein revealed one number that completely changes the conversation. Five plays. According to Klein, nearly 200 of Cincinnati's 271 rushing yards came on just five plays. So what does that tell us about Kansas State's defense? On one hand, it's encouraging. Eliminate a handful of catastrophic mistakes and the overall defensive performance looks dramatically different. On the other hand, allowing five massive rushing plays in one game is a serious problem. Klein identified several reasons for those breakdowns. Eye discipline wasn't consistently good enough. Players lost gap responsibility. At times, defenders tried to make the play themselves instead of trusting the scheme and the teammates around them. That's how a manageable run suddenly becomes an explosive play. The good news is Kansas State now has a bye week to address it. Jordan Peterson's defense was excellent statistically through the opening weeks of the season before Cincinnati exposed some significant problems. Now we'll find out whether those problems require major changes or simply better execution. Because if Kansas State can eliminate those five plays, the Cincinnati loss suddenly looks very different. But if those explosive runs continue against Houston, K-State has a much bigger defensive problem. #KansasState #KStateFootball #Big12 Photo Credit: Albert Cesare IMAGN Go AD Free and More with the Everydayer's Club! Kansas State Wildcats stumble in Big 12 opener as Avery Johnson battles without enough support. Can Collin Klein’s squad regroup in time for a crucial matchup against Houston? Christian Rauh spotlights Johnson’s performance—30-for-50 with 292 passing yards and 38 rushing yards—while questioning the lack of designed quarterback runs and costly drops from receivers like Garrett Oakley. The breakdown zeroes in on defensive woes, with Kansas State surrendering 271 rushing yards and three touchdowns to Cincinnati’s Cole Tabb. Missed opportunities in the “middle eight,” key injuries to playmakers, and questions around tackling efficiency further complicate the Wildcats’ playoff hopes. With a bye week and a must-win against Houston ahead, can Kansas State shore up its defense and reignite its offense? Photo Credit: Aaron Doster IMAGN Go AD Free and More with the Everydayer's Club! Kansas State football enters its Big 12 matchup against Cincinnati at 3-0 as Collin Klein and the Wildcats continue emerging as a potential conference championship contender. Kansas State has quietly impressed in the trenches despite replacing most of its offensive line and losing a returning starter during fall camp. The Wildcats have still developed one of the highest-rated blocking units in college football according to the discussion, continuing a longstanding K-State strength at the line of scrimmage. But Kansas State vs. Cincinnati is only part of a massive Big 12 weekend. Oklahoma State travels to West Virginia for one of the conference’s biggest games, featuring quarterbacks Micah Hawkins and Drew Mestemaker. Both teams have an opportunity to strengthen their College Football Playoff résumés and establish themselves as legitimate Big 12 contenders. Colorado and Baylor also meet in an important matchup after Colorado’s difficult loss to Northwestern. With Texas Tech, Utah, Oklahoma State and Kansas State looming on Colorado’s schedule, the pressure surrounding the Buffaloes could increase quickly. Plus, TCU travels to UCF, Houston visits Georgia Southern, and the Big 12 continues searching for teams capable of separating themselves in the conference race. #KansasState #Big12Football #CollegeFootball Photo Credit: Evert Nelson IMAGn Go AD Free and More with the Everydayer's Club! Avery Johnson delivered the performance Kansas State fans have been waiting for. The Wildcats beat Tulane 31-20 to improve to 3-0, and their quarterback accounted for much of the offense. Is that a concern heading into Big 12 play, or is this exactly what Kansas State needs from Johnson? On today’s Locked On Kansas State, Christian Rauh is joined by John Grove of GoPowerCat.com to break down the Tulane win and what it revealed about Collin Klein’s Wildcats. Johnson completed 21 of 28 passes for 227 yards and added a career-high 152 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries. He became the first player in Kansas State history to record at least 200 passing yards and 150 rushing yards in one game. Christian and John discuss why his performance is encouraging, even as the running backs and offensive line search for greater consistency. The receiving corps is developing, too. Jerron Tibbs posted a career-high nine catches for 114 yards after Joshua Manning stood out the previous week. Does Kansas State need a clear No. 1 receiver, or can spreading the ball around make this offense harder to defend? On defense, the Wildcats’ pass rush continues to impress. Kansas State has 11 sacks through three games after recording 28 all of last season. Jayden Bryant, Wendell Gregory and the rest of the defensive front are creating negative plays, although Tulane exposed some questions against the interior run defense. With Cincinnati and Big 12 play up next, Christian and John examine what Kansas State can build on and what still needs work. Kansas State football is 3-0 after a 31-20 victory over Tulane! Avery Johnson delivered a career-high 152 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns as the Wildcats completed an undefeated non-conference schedule in Collin Klein’s first season as head coach. On this Locked On Kansas State postgame reaction, Christian Rauh breaks down why Johnson’s performance could be a turning point for the Wildcats heading into Big 12 play. The Kansas State quarterback completed 20 of 27 passes for 217 yards while adding 152 yards on the ground. With the running backs struggling to find room against Tulane, Johnson took over and helped K-State finish with 428 yards of total offense. The Kansas State passing game also showed encouraging signs. Jerron Tibbs led the Wildcats with nine receptions for 114 yards, Will Anciaux added 59 receiving yards, and Lincoln Cure continued to create opportunities at tight end. Christian discusses why Cure could become an even bigger part of the offense as the season progresses. And what about that Kansas State defense? The Wildcats recorded six sacks and 12 tackles for loss while holding Tulane to 260 total yards and just 95 rushing yards. Jayden Bryant recorded two sacks, Darian Whitaker Jr. contributed 1.5, and the defensive front delivered another impressive performance despite entering the season with questions surrounding the unit. Christian also examines Kansas State’s offensive line, which did not allow a sack, and explains why the Wildcats look significantly different from last season’s 6-6 team. Finally, it’s time to look ahead to the Big 12 opener against Cincinnati. Kansas State will hit the road for the first time this season as Collin Klein looks to improve to 4-0. With Houston, Texas Tech and BYU shaping the early Big 12 conversation, could the Wildcats become a legitimate conference championship contender? What impressed you most about Kansas State’s win over Tulane? Is Avery Johnson playing like the quarterback you expected, and how confident are you heading into Cincinnati? Subscribe to Locked On Kansas State for daily Kansas State Wildcats football and basketball coverage, postgame reactions, press conference breakdowns and Big 12 analysis. #KansasState #KStateFootball #AveryJohnson Photo Credit: Scott Sewell IMAGN Go AD Free and More with the Everydayer's Club! Could Kansas State play a major role in deciding the Big 12 championship race? With the Wildcats off to a 2-0 start under Collin Klein, the path to Arlington is already getting interesting. On this Locked On College Crossover, Christian Rauh of Locked On Kansas State joins Mike Gittens of Locked On UCF to break down the Big 12’s early contenders, the conference’s top quarterbacks and the games that could shape the title race. Avery Johnson has yet to be sacked this season, easing one of Kansas State’s biggest preseason concerns about its offensive line. Can he build on that start against Tulane and carry it into Big 12 play? Christian also makes the case that Johnson can finish among the conference’s top quarterbacks. Then it’s time to look at the title picture. BYU has an early conference win, Utah’s Devin Dampier is turning heads, and Friday’s Houston–Texas Tech matchup could have major tiebreaker implications. Kansas State still has Houston on its schedule but does not face BYU in the regular season, creating an intriguing potential path through the conference. Which team do you think will reach the Big 12 championship game, and where does Avery Johnson rank among the conference’s quarterbacks? Let us know in the comments. Collin Klein remembers. Kansas State's head coach was the Wildcats' offensive coordinator when Tulane came into Manhattan and stunned K-State in 2022. So when John Grove asked Klein whether that loss was still in the back of his mind heading into this week's rematch? His answer was simple: “No doubt.” Now an undefeated Kansas State team gets another shot at Tulane — and this time Klein is running the entire program. Christian Rauh and John Grove break down the revenge-game storyline, Kansas State's rapidly improving offensive line, the incredible start from Jordan Peterson's defense, the emergence of Gabe Powers and Darian Whitaker Jr., and why Brandon White could completely change K-State's special teams. The Wildcats are 2-0. Tulane is next. And Collin Klein hasn't forgotten. #KansasState #KStateFootball #Big12 Photo Credit: Scott Sewell IMAGN Go AD Free and More with the Everydayer's Club! Kansas State is 2-0. And this Wildcats defense looks REALLY good. K-State took care of Washington State 34-7 at Bill Snyder Family Stadium, and the only WSU touchdown came on a pick-six. That means Kansas State's defense has allowed just THREE POINTS through two games. Wendell Gregory was everywhere. The pass rush made life miserable for Washington State. And suddenly, this looks like a Kansas State team that might not need Avery Johnson to be perfect every Saturday. Johnson threw three touchdowns and added 78 yards on the ground despite two interceptions. Rodney Fields Jr. went over 100 yards AGAIN. Josh Manning caught 10 passes. The offensive line didn't allow a sack. Kansas State ran for nearly 300 yards. Defense. Offense. Special teams. Through two weeks, Collin Klein's Wildcats look incredibly well-rounded. Tulane is next. But after what we just watched? I'm starting to believe in this Kansas State team. #KansasState #KState #KStateFB #Big12 #CollegeFootball Photo Credit: Scott Sewell IMAGN Go AD Free and More with the Everydayer's Club! Week 2 could tell us A LOT about the Big 12. After a shaky opening week, the conference has several opportunities to make statements against teams from the SEC, Big Ten and ACC. But these opportunities don't come around very often. Utah gets Arkansas. Arizona State travels to Texas A&M. Oklahoma State somehow has an opportunity to erase much of the embarrassment from its loss to Tulsa by taking on Oregon. UCF gets Pitt. Kansas gets Missouri. And if the Big 12 wants to seriously talk about putting multiple teams into the College Football Playoff, it needs some results. Then there's the first Big 12 conference game of the season. BYU vs. Arizona. Noah Fifita has wanted another shot at the Cougars after going 0-2 against BYU, while Kalani Sitake is 5-0 against Arizona. For BYU, a loss could immediately complicate what it hopes will become a College Football Playoff run. For Arizona, a win immediately puts the Wildcats into the early Big 12 contender conversation. The Big 12 has plenty of opportunities this weekend. Now it has to prove it belongs. #Big12 #CollegeFootball #CFP #BYUFootball #UtahFootball #ArizonaState #OklahomaState Photo Credit: Evert Nelson IMAGN Go AD Free and More with the Everydayer's Club! Big 12 chaos erupts as Oklahoma State suffers a shocking collapse while Cutter Bully lights up the scoreboard for Kansas State, setting new records in just his debut start. Are preseason expectations for teams like Baylor, Houston, and West Virginia already coming under fire? Coaching blunders, unexpected defensive standouts, and quarterback surprises make for a must-watch start to the college football season. The conversation focused on coaching decisions during the Tulsa-North Texas showdown, Baylor’s defensive line emerging as one of the conference’s best, and Rich Rodriguez’s conservative play calling nearly costing West Virginia. The discussion explored transfer and eligibility rules, West Virginia’s midseason pickup from Georgia, and Deion Sanders putting Colorado “back” on the map. With colorful hot takes, laughs, and betting heartbreaks—including a $10 parlay gone awry—this episode captures the unpredictable spirit of Big 12 football. Who’s trending up, and who’s facing tougher questions than ever? Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Kansas State put 71 points on the board in Collin Klein's debut. Now comes the part that actually matters. Are the Wildcats a legitimate Big 12 contender? Or did we learn very little from a dominant win over Nicholls? I'm not ready to call Kansas State a contender yet. But that could change very quickly. Washington State gives the Wildcats their first real test of the Collin Klein era. The Cougars' defense caused problems against Washington in the Apple Cup, and that makes this an important measuring stick for an offensive line that entered the season as one of my biggest concerns. Kansas State had zero missed assignments up front in Week 1. Do it again against Washington State, and I'm buying in. Then there's Avery Johnson. Washington State had problems containing De'Mond Williams as a runner. Now it gets an even more athletic quarterback in Johnson. I've already put my benchmark out there: 65% completion percentage. Eight carries. If Avery gives Kansas State that, I think the Wildcats win AND cover. Mike Gittens of Locked On UCF joins me as we decide which Big 12 teams are contenders and which are pretenders after Week 1. We also discuss UCF, BYU, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State and a Big 12 race that already looks different than we expected. #KansasState #KState #KStateFootball #Big12 #AveryJohnson #CollinKlein Photo Credit: Scott Sewell IMAGN Go AD Free and More with the Everydayer's Club! Kansas State might finally UNLEASH Avery Johnson. After a dominant 71-3 win over Nicholls, the Wildcats get their first legitimate test of the Collin Klein era against Washington State. And this matchup might be PERFECT for Avery Johnson. Washington State's defense impressed in the Apple Cup. The Cougars have an underrated front seven, created difficult third-down situations against Washington and showed that this could legitimately be the strength of Kirby Moore's football team. But there was also one problem. Tackling. Washington had opportunities where its quarterback appeared dead to rights, only for him to escape and create with his legs. Now Washington State gets Avery Johnson. That's why I believe this could be the game where Kansas State finally lets Avery become the true dual-threat quarterback we've been waiting to see. My number? Eight carries. If Avery completes at least 65% of his passes and carries the football eight times, I believe Kansas State wins AND covers the 17.5-point spread. But there's another massive matchup that could determine whether that happens. Kansas State's offensive line. The Wildcats didn't have a missed assignment against Nicholls, but Washington State's defensive front represents a completely different challenge. If Kansas State handles that front? Look out. We also break down the other side of the matchup, where Washington State quarterback Caden Pinnock presents some similar challenges with his legs. Collin Klein specifically called out Kansas State's tackling and eye discipline this week. Now we know why. Pinnock is dangerous when he gets outside the pocket, but he's also inexperienced at the FBS level and threw two interceptions against Washington. Could Jordan Peterson attack him with pressure early? Could this be a breakout opportunity for Wendell Gregory and Darian Whitaker? For the first time this season, we're about to learn a LOT about Kansas State. #KansasState #KState #KStateFootball #AveryJohnson #CollinKlein #Big12 #CollegeFootball Photo Credit: Evert Nelson IMAGN Go AD Free and More with the Everydayer's Club! Kansas State's offensive line might be MUCH further along than we expected. That was one of my biggest takeaways from Collin Klein's Monday press conference following the Wildcats' 71-3 win over Nicholls. The offensive line entered this season with legitimate questions. John Pastore is out. Tanner Morley has been working his way back. Ryan Howard was stepping into a massive opportunity at left tackle. And after one game? The early returns are extremely encouraging. Klein praised the protection and said Kansas State didn't have a missed assignment up front. Ryan Howard handled every snap with the starters. Charlie Adams impressed. And the Wildcats consistently created movement at the line of scrimmage. Yes. It was Nicholls. We're going to keep saying that. But Washington State is about to give us a much better idea of whether Kansas State has actually answered one of its biggest offseason questions. We also learned more about the running back competition. Rodney Fields may have been the biggest surprise of Week 1, but Klein isn't committing to predetermined carry totals between Fields, Joe Jackson and Jay Harris. Could Kansas State simply ride the hot hand? Then we turn to the defense. Despite allowing only three points, Klein wasn't completely satisfied. Tackling needs to improve. Eye discipline needs to improve. And those issues become much more important against a mobile Washington State quarterback this weekend. Plus, we've got injury updates on Tanner Morley and Makai Mason as Kansas State prepares for its first FBS opponent of the Collin Klein era. Morley continues to make gradual progress with no setbacks. Mason's situation sounds better than initially feared, but his availability against Washington State remains a question. Week 1 gave Kansas State plenty of reasons for optimism. Now we're about to start finding out how much of it is REAL. #KansasState #KState #KStateFootball #CollinKlein #AveryJohnson #Big12 #CollegeFootball Photo Credit: Scott Sewell IMAGN Go AD Free and More with the Everydayer's Club! Kansas State might have a NEW RB1. Of everything we saw in the Wildcats' 71-3 win over Nicholls, Rodney Fields Jr. might have been the biggest surprise. Because he didn't simply play well. He STARTED. Fields received 14 carries and turned them into 101 yards and a touchdown, showing the vision, decisiveness and explosiveness that apparently stood out to Collin Klein once Kansas State started going live during camp. Now we have a serious question. Is Rodney Fields becoming Kansas State's No. 1 running back? Joe Jackson isn't going anywhere. Jay Harris is still going to have a role. And after watching all three backs contribute against Nicholls, Kansas State might have something even better than one clear starter. This could legitimately become a three-headed monster. We break down the entire Kansas State offense after Collin Klein's first win, including an extremely encouraging performance from Avery Johnson. Johnson completed 15 of 21 passes for 199 yards and three touchdowns while adding another score on the ground. But the numbers weren't even the most impressive part. He looked comfortable. He looked confident. And in his first game reunited with Collin Klein, Avery looked like a quarterback completely in control of the offense. We also discuss Kansas State's offensive line after an encouraging first performance from a group that entered the season with plenty of questions. Ryan Howard stepped into the opening at left tackle. Charlie Adams impressed. And Avery Johnson was consistently given time to operate. Yes. It was Nicholls. Washington State is going to tell us significantly more about this team. But Kansas State did exactly what it was supposed to do in Week 1. Plus, we talk about everything that felt DIFFERENT inside Bill Snyder Family Stadium. The Cat Train is back. Willie's opponent skits are back. Sandstorm returned in the third quarter. The Wildcats locked arms. And Willie somehow survived 394 push-ups after Kansas State scored 71 points. The “new old school” era under Collin Klein is officially underway. #KansasState #KState #KStateFootball #CollinKlein #AveryJohnson #Big12 #CollegeFootball Photo Credit: Evert Nelson IMAGN Go AD Free and More with the Everydayer's Club! Is Special Teams U officially BACK at Kansas State? John Grove called his shot. All offseason, he told us Kansas State was going to score a special-teams touchdown. It took ONE GAME. Brandon White took a punt to the house against Nicholls, showing off the ridiculous speed that made him one of the most intriguing additions to this Kansas State roster. And maybe this was about more than one touchdown. Kansas State has an incredible history of winning games with special teams. Since 1999, K-State has 140 non-offensive touchdowns. Since 2005, Kansas State has 64 kickoff and punt-return touchdowns — far ahead of anyone else in college football. That was a massive piece of the Bill Snyder identity. Now, in the first game of the Collin Klein era and this push toward the “new old school,” Kansas State immediately gets another one. Coincidence? Maybe. But it sure felt like Kansas State football. And Brandon White could become a serious weapon. We also dive into a Kansas State defense that gave us plenty to be excited about. Darian Whitaker Jr. looked completely at home in his new role along the defensive line. Logan Bartley impressed. Gabe Powers gave us more confidence in the linebacker room. JoJo Scott showed some serious potential in the secondary. And Wendell Gregory gave us our first look at what he could become in this defense. Yes, we have to keep saying it. This was Nicholls. Washington State will be a much bigger test. Tulane will be a bigger test. Eventually, Big 12 play will tell us what this Kansas State team really is. But this is exactly what you're supposed to do against an opponent like Nicholls. Dominate. Get younger players on the field. Build confidence. And start establishing what you want Kansas State football to look like under Collin Klein. So far? The “new old school” is looking pretty damn fun. #KansasState #KState #KStateFootball #CollinKlein #Big12 #CollegeFootball Photo Credit: Scott Sewell IMAGN Go AD Free and More with the Everydayer's Club! The Collin Klein era at Kansas State is officially underway. Yeah... That'll work. Kansas State absolutely demolished Nicholls 71-3 in Klein's first game as head coach, giving the Wildcats their highest-scoring performance since putting 76 on Ball State in 2000. And while Nicholls certainly isn't going to be the toughest opponent Kansas State sees this season, there was a LOT to like about this debut. Start with Avery Johnson. 15-of-21. 199 passing yards. Three passing touchdowns. Another touchdown on the ground. And for everyone who spent the offseason questioning Johnson's accuracy? How does a 71% completion percentage sound for Game 1? Then there's the running game. Kansas State finished with more than 300 rushing yards and SIX different players scored rushing touchdowns. But maybe the biggest surprise was Rodney Fields Jr. Fields got the start and finished with 100 rushing yards on 14 carries. Joe Jackson scored. Jay Harris contributed. Ontario Elston broke a 46-yard run. Kansas State suddenly might have a very interesting problem in that running back room. Then there's the offensive line. After all the questions surrounding that group entering the season, Kansas State didn't allow a single sack. Again, it's Nicholls. Keep everything in perspective. But this is exactly what you're SUPPOSED to do against an overmatched opponent. Dominate. Get your starters out. Give younger players meaningful snaps. Build some confidence. And move on. Even special teams got involved, with Brandon White taking a punt 65 yards to the house. Kansas State wasn't perfect. And we'll learn significantly more against Washington State, Tulane and eventually Cincinnati. But after some of the ugly nonconference performances we've watched from this program recently, there was no drama this time. Collin Klein's first win? Check. Avery Johnson looking comfortable? Check. Offensive line protecting the quarterback? Check. Young players getting valuable reps? Check. 71-3? Yeah. That's one hell of a way to start a new era. #KansasState #KState #KStateFootball #CollinKlein #AveryJohnson #Big12 #CollegeFootball Photo Credit: Evert Nelson IMAGN Go AD Free and More with the Everydayer's Club! Kansas State football is BACK. In less than 24 hours, Collin Klein will lead the Wildcats onto the field at Bill Snyder Family Stadium for the first time as Kansas State's head coach. And against Nicholls, the question isn't really whether Kansas State should win. They absolutely should. The question is what we LEARN while watching them do it. What does a Collin Klein-coached team look like? How different does the offense feel? And most importantly: Are we finally going to see Avery Johnson UNLEASHED? John Grove from GoPowerCat joins the show as we break down everything we're watching in Klein's debut. Nicholls already has a game under its belt after beating Mississippi Valley State 44-10. Quarterback Ian Rodriguez threw for 264 yards and three touchdowns, and Nicholls showed enough explosiveness through the air to give Kansas State's new-look secondary something to think about. But Kansas State should have a significant talent advantage. Now we need to see it. Can the Wildcats generate pressure? Can the secondary eliminate explosive plays? Can Avery Johnson protect the football? And what does Sean Gleeson's offense look like with Johnson, Joe Jackson and a group of receivers looking to establish themselves? Then we're making our FINAL predictions. John has Kansas State winning 41-10. I've got the Wildcats winning 34-10. That means we're BOTH taking Nicholls +41.5 and the under at 54.5. And we're getting bold. I've got Joe Jackson rushing for more than 150 yards. John goes even further: Jerron Tibbs finishes with more than 150 receiving yards AND two touchdowns. The offseason is officially over. The Collin Klein era begins NOW. #KansasState #KState #KStateFootball #CollinKlein #AveryJohnson #Big12 #CollegeFootball Photo Credit: Evert Nelson Go AD Free and More with the Everydayer's Club! One more day. That's all that's left before Kansas State football officially begins the Collin Klein era. So for the FINAL time this offseason, we're doing what we've spent months doing: Speculating. John Grove from GoPowerCat joins the show as we go game-by-game through Kansas State's entire 2026 schedule and make our final predictions. And I'm starting to feel pretty good about what Year 1 could look like. Nicholls? Win. Washington State? Win. Tulane? Win. I even think Kansas State can go on the road and beat Cincinnati to begin Big 12 play and start the Collin Klein era 4-0. John isn't quite as confident. Then things get REALLY interesting. Houston might be the most important game on Kansas State's entire schedule. The Sunflower Showdown returns to Manhattan. There's a difficult trip to Arizona State. Colorado awaits on Halloween. And the final month brings Oklahoma State, TCU, Arizona and potentially the final Farmageddon against Iowa State. There are plenty of games that could swing this season dramatically in either direction. But when we finally add everything up? John has Kansas State finishing 8-4. I've got the Wildcats going 9-3. And I feel extremely confident about two games in particular: Collin Klein beats Kansas AND Iowa State in his first season. Would 9-3 be enough to put Kansas State into the Big 12 Championship conversation? Could 8-4 still represent a successful first season under Klein? And which games have the biggest chance to completely change our predictions? One final time before we actually get answers, let's predict the entire Kansas State football season. Drop YOUR final record prediction in the comments. #KansasState #KState #KStateFootball #CollinKlein #Big12 #CollegeFootball Photo Credit: Evert Nelson IMAGN Go AD Free and More with the Everydayer's Club! Big 12 teams face early-season pressure as Baylor preps for a high-stakes showdown against Auburn in the Aflac Kickoff. Can DJ Lagway ignite the Bears’ offense and save Dave Aranda’s job, or will Auburn’s transfer-heavy roster under Alex Golesh hold the upper hand? The group debates talent disparities, the impact of new coaching staffs, and whether last year’s stats offer any real insight for fans expecting a breakout performance. The conversation focused on Oklahoma State’s revamped lineup, raising questions about defensive improvement and the upside of bringing in nearly an entire staff from North Texas. UCF’s Alonzo Barnett emerges as a sleeper to watch, while the hosts debate whether parity in the Big 12 will help or hurt the conference’s playoff hopes. Plus, bold predictions for BYU, Kansas State, and Arizona State set the stage for a wild opening weekend. Which teams are poised for a quick rise—and which might be overrated? Are people finally starting to BUY STOCK in Kansas State? Because after an offseason filled with questions surrounding Collin Klein's first season back in Manhattan, the conversation around the Wildcats might finally be starting to change. Locked On Big 12 recently admitted Kansas State may have been ranked too low entering the 2026 season, pointing specifically to some of the top-end talent on this roster. And they're right about one thing. Kansas State has some legitimate dudes. Wendell Gregory has the talent to potentially become the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year. Joe Jackson broke Darren Sproles' Kansas State freshman rushing record last season. Garrett Oakley has already shown he can be one of the better tight ends in college football. And then there's Avery Johnson. I've been more cautious about Kansas State this offseason than I was a year ago. But there's one thing I feel VERY confident about. Avery Johnson is going to have the best season of his college career. Putting him back together with Collin Klein could completely change what this Kansas State offense looks like. And apparently people around the Big 12 are starting to see the potential too. Here's the weird part. While the perception surrounding Kansas State might be improving, its Big 12 championship odds have actually moved in the opposite direction. K-State went from fourth in the conference at +1200 to fifth at +1700 in the odds we discussed on today's show. So is THAT the opportunity? Is everybody still sleeping on Kansas State? Locked On UCF host Mike G joins Locked On Kansas State to discuss why people are starting to change their minds about the Wildcats, whether it's officially time to buy K-State stock and just how wide open the Big 12 could become in 2026. Maybe I've been too low on Kansas State too. Now it's time for the Wildcats to prove everybody right. #KansasState #KStateFootball #KState #AveryJohnson #CollinKlein #Big12 #CollegeFootball Photo Credit: Matt Kartozian IMAGN Go AD Free and More with the Everydayer's Club! Kansas State's first defensive depth chart is here. And there are a LOT more surprises than I expected. Jon Grove of GoPowercat joins Locked On Kansas State to break down Collin Klein's first defensive depth chart before the Wildcats open the season against Nicholls. It starts up front. Wendell Gregory and Jordan Allen are expected to start on the edge, but there are some notable names missing from the two-deep — including Elijah Hill. Instead, Darian Whitaker Jr. and Jayden Bryant have earned early opportunities. Then there's the linebacker room. Mekhi Mason has officially earned a starting job after receiving significant praise throughout the offseason. Gabe Powers will join him after emerging as both a starter and team captain. But Rex Van Wyhe isn't currently listed as a starter despite representing Kansas State at Big 12 Media Days. The biggest surprises might be in the secondary. Sophomore JoJo Scott won the starting nickel job. Logan Bartley is listed ahead of Jasson Prevard at strong safety, while young defensive backs Garrick Dixon and Nick McKellen have already cracked the two-deep. So what does all of this mean? Are Kansas State's young defenders simply developing faster than expected? Are injuries playing a role? Or has Collin Klein created a legitimate competition where previous experience doesn't guarantee anyone a starting job? Nicholls should give Kansas State an opportunity to start finding those answers. Because after Week 1, the competition gets considerably more difficult. #KansasState #KState #KStateFootball #Big12 #CollegeFootball #CollinKlein Photo Credit: Evert Nelson IMAGN Go AD Free and More with the Everydayer's Club! Kansas State has a major question to answer before this season gets much more difficult. Can this offensive line hold up? Jon Grove of GoPowercat joins Locked On Kansas State as we break down Collin Klein's first depth chart and everything we learned about the Wildcats offense heading into Week 1 against Nicholls. And it starts at left tackle. Ryan Howard is expected to get the first opportunity after injuries completely changed what Kansas State thought its offensive line would look like entering the season. The experience level is concerning. Howard enters with zero college snaps. Keaton Jones has eight. Dylan Villarouel has 43. Gus Hawkins has 126, while Charlie Adams is currently the most experienced member of that projected starting five. That's a LOT of development that needs to happen quickly. The good news? Nicholls gives Kansas State an opportunity to start finding answers before the competition gets considerably more difficult. We also break down the rest of K-State's first offensive depth chart. Joe Jackson, Jay Harris and Rodney Fields are all listed as options at running back. Garrett Oakley, Will Anciaux and Linkon Cure give Kansas State multiple possibilities at tight end. And the wide receiver rotation finally gives us a better idea of who Avery Johnson will be throwing to this season. But there's one question that matters more than everything else against Nicholls. Kansas State needs to leave Week 1 feeling considerably better about its offensive line. Because Washington State is coming next. And unlike last season, K-State can't afford to spend September figuring everything out. #KansasState #KState #KStateFootball #Big12 #CollegeFootball #AveryJohnson Photo Credit: Evert Nelson - IMAGN Go AD Free and More with the Everydayer's Club! Kansas State Wildcats tumble to 87th in Fox Sports preseason rankings—an eyebrow-raising drop from last year’s top 25. Can Collin Klein’s squad silence critics and outperform bold predictions of a 4-8 finish? Christian Rauh and John Grove break down the Wildcats’ national perception, question the rationale behind RJ Young’s ranking, and unpack media skepticism around offensive injuries and a first-year head coach. Key topics include Kansas State’s depth chart concerns, especially at left tackle, the offensive line’s "by committee" approach, and how those uncertainties might impact quarterback Avery Johnson’s usage this season. The hosts also spotlight Week 0 matchups, Nichols’ fast start, and which Group of Six and Power Five clashes could shape early college football playoff talks. Big 12 football could be completely wide open in 2026, but Kansas State may have a major concern as Week 1 approaches. Texas Tech entered the offseason as the team to beat, but questions at quarterback have opened the door for BYU, Kansas State and the rest of a conference where seemingly anyone can beat anyone. Both Mike Giddens and I currently lean toward BYU as the Big 12 favorite over Texas Tech. But how confident should Kansas State fans be right now? Avery Johnson is back. Collin Klein is taking over. Brandon White continues generating buzz. There are plenty of reasons to believe in the Wildcats. The concern is the offensive line. There are rumblings of potentially significant injuries up front, and while nothing had been confirmed at the time of recording, it's enough to change how I'm looking at Kansas State entering the season. If the Wildcats can't consistently protect Avery Johnson, all those weapons suddenly become a lot less important. In fact, with Kansas State's win total sitting at 8.5, I'm currently leaning UNDER. Plus, is the Big 12 still an offensive conference? Is Texas Tech really the team that should carry the conference? And which teams could create chaos in one of college football's most unpredictable leagues? The Big 12 is wide open. Now Kansas State needs to make sure it doesn't let an opportunity slip away. #KansasState #KStateFootball #Big12 #Big12Football #AveryJohnson #CollegeFootball Photo Credit: Evert Nelson IMAGN Go AD Free and More with the Everydayer's Club!
